Enrollment appears to have increased in Geary USD 475 this school year.

The official student count last Friday revealed the tentative count totaled 8,124. Verification of the numbers is under way and should be completed later this week.

That information was provided by Superintendent of Schools Ron Walker, who estimated the enrollment in the official count a year ago at this time was about 7,990 students. “It’s up slightly and that’s better than what I thought it was going to be. I was really anticipating reduction in about 100 to 200 students because the cuts that took place on the Fort with the contracts being reduced and those kind of things. We kind of felt like it might be reduced.”

Walker estimated the enrollment in the district is up by about 130 students.
