The damage from an early Saturday morning hay shed fire in rural Geary County will exceed $100,000. 

That estimate comes from Geary County Rural Fire Chief Garry Berges, who reported the shed  contained more than 400 large alfalfa hay bales.

There were no injuries in the fire, which was reported about 5:30 a.m. on Sam Jahnke farm property in the 9000 block of Clark Creeks Road. The location is about six miles southeast of Junction City.

Berges said when firefighters arrived on the scene the entire shed was on fire. “We responded with six trucks, about 15 personnel. ”

The cause of the blaze was undetermined. Berges noted there was no electricity to the building, and it had been 30 days since the last hay had been placed inside the shed.
