Toy Exhibit Set to Open at Geary County Historical Museum

A new exhibit at the Geary County Historical Museum will open Sunday in conjunction with the historical society’s annual Fall Fair and Ice Cream Social.

“The playtime exhibit will show the evolution of toys in the 1900’s from geary county historical museumhomemade cloth dolls to Power Rangers,” GCHS museum curator Heather Hagedorn said.

The exhibit features vintage and more recent toys children in Geary County have enjoyed in the past century, including pull toys, a Soap Box Derby car, old skates, old baseball gear, electric trains and western, military and space adventure figures.

Part of the exhibit features a hands on section where children can operate an electric train, play with building blocks or play a game of twister.

The fair outside will feature the traditional pies, cakes, brownies and homemade ice cream as well as other food to eat.

Admission to both the fair and exhibit is free to the public, there will be a charge for food however.

Three student music groups from USD 475 are scheduled to perform during the fair. Between 3 and 5 p.m. the Junction City Middle School Band Ensemble along with the Junction City High School Orchestra Ensemble and JCHS Blue Jay Jazz Band will perform.

Chapman musician and businessman, Steve Fansler will also perform a recently conceived program of acoustic and electric guitar music entitled “Steve Fansler Up Close and Personal.” Fansler will perform between 5 and 6 p.m..
