An interception that was returned 32-yards for a touchdown by Kansas State safety Ty Zimmerman was a big play in the second half of the Wildcat’s 48-27 win over Louisiana Saturday night in Manhattan.

At that point in the game the Rajun’ Cajuns had some momentum after scoring two consecutive touchdowns in the third quarter. But Zimmerman’s score gave Kansas State a 24-point lead with 7:09 remaining in the third period.

After the game Zimmerman reflected back on that play. “It was just a great play by Blake Slaughter. He made sure number three didn’t get inside of him.  Quarterback kind of had to throw it behind him and I was just able to pick it and get into the end zone.”

KSU Coach Bill Snyder said after the game. “Well, Ty’s a tremendous young man, and a quality person. Obviously he’s been a very fine player for us for four years. Knows exactly what he’s doing and how to go about doing it. Doesn’t get himself out of position too often. The fact that he caught the ball, I mean it wasn’t the easiest catch in the world, but the fact that he caught it….the path was open for the touchdown, but just the fact that he made a difficult catch was that I thought was important, because I’ve seen him drop those in practice. That tells me the focus was there.”   Snyder also noted whether or not Zimmerman caught the ball he’s a “quality young man and a good player for us.”

Kansas State ( 1-1 ), hosts Massachusetts next Saturday night.
