Geary Community Hospital Set To Celebrate 100 Years Monday

On Monday, September 9th, Geary Community Hospital will officially celebrate a century of caring on it’s 100th birthday.

GCH has been celebrating it’s century year since April. “This event will kind of GCH-logo-centennial-colorcap it off,” according to Cyndy Platt, Director of Public Relations at GCH.

Monday’s event starts at 11:00 a.m. and the hospital will be distributing 400 box lunches ( while supplies last ) in the Thomas B. Fegan Dining Room. Starting at noon in the main lobby there will be brief remarks to mark the occasion from Dr. Joseph Stratton, Geary Community Hospital CEO. Tom Bell, President and CEO of the Kansas Hospital Association will also speak.

The GCH Auxiliary will also dedicate a time capsule that will be placed in one of the walls in the main lobby. Platt listed some of the items that will be put inside the capsule,”Our first hospital flag, pictures from the first three hospitals, some of the publications that the hospital has put out, some pictures of equipment that might look pretty funny in a hundred years.”

A cast aluminum plaque will be placed over the capsule. The hospital was founded September 9th, 1913, by Dr. W.A. Carr.
