Labor Day means there will be a parade in Chapman.

A large crowd took in the parade under sunny skies Monday afternoon in that Dickinson County community.

Jerry Moran, U.S. Senator, rode behind the Fort Riley Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard. “Chapman is one of those communities that has such a strong tie to Fort Riley, to the folks who serve our country. A lot of retired military and active military live in this community. And this is a community that understands patriotism. It’s great to be with the Color Guard.”

Retired USD 473 Superintendent of Schools Kenny Root and Tony Frieze, along with current Superintendent Laci Sell served as the Grand Marshall’s for the parade, which had “Better Schools Better Community as its theme. Root said riding with Frieze and Sell was an honor, while Frieze said, “In Chapman it’s just great to see all the people out. Chapman community’s a great place and a great place to live.”  Sell noted she was just honored to be a part of the parade with Root and Frieze.

There were a number of other activities on Labor Day in Chapman ranging from pancakes & sausage and a Hamburger Feed at the American Legion to the Toy Show at the Chapman High School Multi-purpose Room.

Barbara Smith was among the American Legion officials in attendance. “Oh man it’s been a happy crowd, and they’ve been really out here spending money and eating the food.”

The Labor Day Celebration is a traditional event in Chapman that draws spectators and partcipants from surrounding cities and counties
