Blue Jays to Face Dodge City in TOC Semifinal Tourney Game
There’ll be a rematch in the semifinals of the Tournament of Champions.
The Junction Blue Jays will meet Dodge City at the United Wireless Arena for an opportunity to advance into the tournament championship game on Saturday.The Blue Jays defeated Dodge City 87-71 in the season opener at the Shenk Gym.
Dodge City advanced into the tournament matchup with Junction City by defeating Hutchinson 79-72, while the Blue Jays were 74-60 winners over Derby in the first round of the tournament.
Tonight’s game begins at 7:30 p.m and will be broadcast with pre-game at 7:20 p.m. on 107.9 FM/1420 KJCK.
Blue Jays win in Tournament of Champions 1st Round Game
The Junction City Blue Jays opened play in the Dodge City, KS Tournament of Champions with a 74-60 win over the Derby Panthers on Thursday. The Blue Jays were led by 28 points from A.J. Dickerson, while Aaron Hamilton had 12.
The Blue Jays will advance to the tournament semifinal round at 7:30 p.m. Friday. They will meet the winner of the Dodge City – Hutchinson game.
In the win over Derby the held off a Panther rally that saw them come from 12 down to lead by one. The Blue Jays outscored Derby 23–17 in the 4th quarter.
Blue Jays to open play in The Tournament of Champions
The Junction City Blue Jays meet the Derby Panthers in the first round of the 76th annual Tournament of Champions in Dodge City on Thursday.
Game time is 2 p.m. You can hear the broadcast on 107.9 FM and 1420 KJCK.
The other first round matchups include Dodge City against Hutchinson. Shawnee Mission South vs. Wichita North and Bishop Carroll against Newton. The tournament continues Friday and Saturday at the United Wireless Arena.
If the Blue Jays win on Thursday they would meet the winner of Dodge City – Hutchinson on Friday, and a loss to Derby would send them up against the loser of the Dodge City – Hutchinson game on Friday.
K-State women upend Number 11 Texas
MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Kayla Goth had 20 points and tied her career-high with 12 assists and Kansas State used a big first half to defeat No. 11 Texas 87-69 on Wednesday night.
Christianna Carr added 19 on points 7-of-10 shooting, including four 3-pointers, for the Wildcats (11-6, 2-3 Big 12). Peyton Williams had 18 points with eight rebounds. Goth’s 12 assists were a conference high this season.
Williams had back-to-back 3-pointers in a 10-0 run and added a third in the first quarter as K-State jumped to a 23-13 lead. Carr scored four in a 6-0 burst to start the second quarter and Williams scored the last four before the half for a 42-23 lead.
Kansas State was 6 of 13 from distance and shot 50 percent overall. The Longhorns shot 35 percent and had 10 turnovers.
K-State picks up road win at Oklahoma
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Barry Brown scored 25 points and Dean Wade added 20 to help Kansas State beat No. 20 Oklahoma 74-61 on Wednesday night.
It was Kansas State’s second straight road win over a ranked team — the Wildcats won at Iowa State last Saturday. It was also Wade’s second game back since missing six in a row with a torn tendon in his right foot.
Kansas State (13-4, 3-2 Big 12) shot 50 percent from the field against an Oklahoma squad that was holding opponents to 37.7 percent shooting, good for ninth nationally.
Christian James scored 20 points and Rashard Odomes added a season-high 17 for Oklahoma (13-4, 2-3). It was the Sooners’ first home defeat and their first loss to an unranked team this season.
Kansas State ran out to an 8-0 lead as Oklahoma went scoreless for more than three minutes to start the game. The Wildcats stretched their advantage to 20-7 before the Sooners found their footing. James hit a 3-pointer in the closing seconds of the first half to cut Kansas State’s lead to 30-24.
The Wildcats kept the Sooners at bay, and an emphatic two-handed dunk by Wade with just over two minutes to play put the Wildcats up 71-56.
Troopers played Wamego
The Fort Riley Troopers played Wamego Tuesday night where the 8th grade boys team lost the first game 39-30 and the second game 29-11. The 7th grade team won the first game 37-33 and lost the second game 14-9.
According to Bob Shefelton the 9th grade team travels to McPherson on Thursday while the 7th grade team hosts McPherson.

Lady Jays fall to Hayden
Junction City led Hayden 9-7 in the first quarter but then the Wildcats steadily took advantage of turnovers and the strong shooting of senior post player Brooklyn Hunter to roll to a 67-24 victory over the Lady Jays at the Shenk Gym. There was a running clock in the fourth quarter due the margin of Hayden’s lead exceeding 30 points.
Hayden ( 2-7 ) got 29 points from Hunter. who was able to grab a number of rebounds and get shots close to the backboard and rim. Junction City ( 0-8 ) was led by Mellana Davis with 9 points while Andrea Davis had 8.
The Lady Jays play at Washburn Rural on Friday night. The starting times have been moved to get the games over with before an anticipated winter storm hits. The Lady Jay varsity is expected to play about 5;30 p.m., the JV at 4 p.m. and the 9th grade girls also at 5:30 p.m.
Jayhawks hold off Texas
LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Marcus Garrett has earned his spot in the Kansas starting lineup primarily with his defense.
His offense Monday night was merely a bonus.
The sophomore forward poured in a career-high 20 points, used his defensive instincts to produce a crucial tie-up in the closing seconds, and helped the seventh-ranked Jayhawks hold on for an 80-78 win over the Longhorns when Jase Febres’ 3-pointer at the buzzer never came close.
“He carried us in the first half when I was in foul trouble,” said the Jayhawks’ Dedric Lawson, who added 17 points and eight rebounds. “Sometimes when we play pickup and one-on-one and stuff like that, we see that he’s capable of making shots.’
Lagerald Vick also had 21 points for the Jayhawks (15-2, 4-1 Big 12), who blew a 10-point second-half lead before escaping with their 10th straight win over the Longhorns.
