Chiefs Defeat Raiders to Remain Unbeaten

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Jamaal Charles ran for two touchdowns, the Kansas City defense harassed Oakland quarterback Terrelle Pryor into throwing three second-half interceptions and the Chiefs remained unbeaten with a 24-7 victory over the Raiders on Sunday.chiefs

After winning just twice last season, Kansas City (6-0) continued the second-best start in franchise history. The Chiefs won their first nine games during the 2003 season.

The Chiefs piled up 10 sacks while ending a three-game skid to the Raiders (2-4), and a six-game losing streak against them at Arrowhead Stadium.

Pryor threw for 216 yards and a touchdown, but his interceptions proved costly.

The first led to Charles’ go-ahead touchdown run, the second led to Ryan Succop’s fourth-quarter field goal, and Husain Abdullah returned the last one for a touchdown to seal the win.

Arrowhead Stadium Breaks Record for Noise Level

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Arrowhead Stadium is once again the loudest stadium in the NFL.arrowhead

This time, it’s official.

The Kansas City Chiefs broke the world record for an outdoor sports stadium in their 24-7 win over Oakland on Sunday when they reached 137.5 decibels in the closing minutes.

An official from Guinness World Records told The Associated Press confirmed that Chiefs fans broke the previous record of 136.6 set by Seahawks fans during a game against San Francisco earlier this year.

The Chiefs have long claimed that their facility is the loudest in the NFL.

The record-setting attempt was planned by Chiefs fans but with support of the organization, which paid $7,500 to fly an adjudicator from Guinness to Kansas City to document the effort.

Mueller Battled for Wildcats Against Baylor

Ryan Mueller wanted Kansas State to defeat Baylor for the seniors on last year’s Wildcat football team.cat pack

But it didn’t turn out the way he wanted, as Baylor left Manhattan with a 35-25 win over the Wildcats on Saturday.

The K-State defensive end stripped the ball from Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty with 6:22 remaining in the third quarter that set up a Kansas State scoring drive, and he recorded seven tackles, including five solo tackles and two assists.

After the game on Saturday Mueller noted he remembered the game last season where Baylor knocked off Kansas State. The loss knocked the Wildcats out of a push for a possible berth in the national championship game. “I just remember the feeling I had last year we played them….in the locker room it was just devastating. I tried to play for all the seniors last year. I wanted to dedicate the game and the performance to them. I’m sorry we couldn’t get it done because I know each and every one of them were watching the game. I’m sorry we couldn’t get it done.”

The Wildcats fell to 2-4 with the loss while Baylor is now 6-0.

Big Play Scores, Mistakes Doom Kansas State Against Baylor

The Baylor Bears ( 6-0 ) scored on touchdown pass plays of 93, 72, and 54 yards enroute to a 35-25 victory over the Kansas State Wildcats ( 2-4 ) Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.ksu - baylor

The last of those scores came with 14:33 remaining in the fourth quarter and put Baylor ahead for good in the contest at 28-25.   Kansas State placekicker Jack Cantele would miss a potential tying 32 yard field goal in the fourth quarter, and the Bears tacked on a late touchdown with 1:16 remaining on a 21 yard run by Glasco Martin.

Kansas State coach Bill Snyder liked the effort of his football team, but noted the outcome “boiled down to mistakes.” Snyder added, “We made four mistakes defensively in the first half of the ballgame and it cost us 21 points.”

Snyder indicated if the big plays were taken away the Wildcats were solidly in the game.

“I don’t fault the effort of virtually young guy that we have in our program. We just have to keep trying to get better.”

Kansas State had only one turnover, but it came late in the contest with the Wildcats trailing 28-25. A Daniel Sams pass was intercepted by Ahmad Dixon at the K-State 39 yard line.

Baylor coach Art Briles credited Kansas State with playing “tremendously with a lot of heart, a lot of effort, which our guys did to. But we have a tremendous amount of respect for em.”

Briles remembered back two years ago when Baylor lost a close game at Kansas State. “You know we came up here two years ago in the same situation, same circumstances, and didn’t get away with a win. I like the fact that we came up here today and faced a lot of adversity, and got a win, a tough win on the road.”

Blue Jays Roll by Topeka West

blue jay logoThe Junction City Blue Jays broke away from a 7-7 first quarter tie with 24 consecutive points to defeat the Topeka West Chargers 58-21 in the capitol city Thursday night.

The Blue Jays and Chargers were tied when Junction City started to roll on offense. They scored on a 54-yard pass play from Tanner Lueker to Semaj Johnson, a 17-yard touchdown run by Jerma’l Campbell, a 14-yard touchdown run by Dequan Davis, and a 30 yard field goal by ZacharyRoberts.

In the second half Topeka West mounted two scoring strikes but Junction City still put two more touchdowns on the board to maintain a comfortable lead enroute to the victory.  But Junction City sputtered at times in the game with mistakes including a series of penalties.

Blue Jay coach Randall Zimmerman felt his team practiced well on Monday and Tuesday, but did not on Wednesday. “We played tonight as we practiced yesterday. It was kind of puzzling.”

The Blue Jays are 4-2 on the season while Topeka West fell to 2-4.

Junction City will open district play next Friday when they host Washburn Rural.

Chiefs fans aim to break Seahawks’ noise record

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Even the most muffled clap seemed to echo throughout Arrowhead Stadium last season as the Kansas City Chiefs plodded their way toward one of the worst seasons in franchise history.

A group of fans is trying to restore the roar.

When the Chiefs host the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, they will be trying to break a Guinness world record for loudest sports crowd roar in an outdoor sports stadium that was set earlier this year by Seahawks fans during a game against the 49ers.

The record is 136.6 decibels, or just below what a jet engine sounds like 100 feet away. The fans even have the support of the Chiefs, who paid for a Guinness adjudicator to fly to Kansas City for the record attempt.
