Kansas State 31 Oklahoma 30 Final!

A blocked Oklahoma extra point try by Kansas State in the fourth quarter, and a missed field goal by the k-state footballOklahoma Sooners with 4:07 to play led to a 31-30 Wildcat win over the Sooners in Norman. After the missed field goal the Kansas State offense ran out the clock to secure the victory.

It was the second straight win for Kansas State over the Sooners in Norman.

The Wildcats, 5-1, host Texas next Saturday.

Ned Yost has Underdog Royals in World Series

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Jeff Foxworthy figures he can wait just a while longer to go hunting kcrwith his neighbor and good buddy. After all, Ned Yost is a bit busy this time of the year.

He has the Kansas City Royals back in the World Series for the first time since 1985.

Yost has become one of the central figures of the baseball playoffs, with his often-questionable moves and steadfast belief in his team. And here’s the thing: That debatable decision-making has proven to be faultless during a perfect run to the Fall Classic.

Now, a fan base that coined the term “yosted” for any kind of screw-up is lavishing Yost with the kind of praise reserved for hometown heroes such as George Brett and Frank White.

K-State – Oklahoma to Play Saturday

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) – Oklahoma’s national title hopes likely will be on the line Saturday whenk-state football the 11th-ranked Sooners host No. 14 Kansas State in a matchup of one-loss teams that lack a quality win.

Before the season, the Sooners were talking confidently about seeking a spot in the four-team college football playoff, but lately, they haven’t looked like a contender. Oklahoma lost to TCU two weeks ago and got a scare last Saturday before holding off Texas.

The Sooners enter their game against Kansas State focused on simpler goals. Oklahoma is trying to get its offense going again after being inconsistent and mistake prone the past two weeks.

Kansas State, which has one of the stingiest defenses in the Big 12, could creep into the playoff picture with a win over the Sooners on the road.  Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. Saturday in Norman.

World Series Matchup Set

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Travis Ishikawa hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth logosinning, sending the San Francisco Giants to the World Series with a 6-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday night.

These every-other-year Giants clinched the NL Championship Series in Game 5 and now will face the Royals in an all wild-card Fall Classic that begins Tuesday night in Kansas City.

Pablo Sandoval singled to start the ninth against Michael Wacha, making his first appearance of the postseason for the Cardinals. After an out, Brandon Belt walked to bring up Ishikawa, who drove a 2-0 pitch into the elevated seats in right field.

Miami Looking for Leadership from K-State Transfer

basketballCORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – Now that junior transfer Angel Rodriguez plays point guard for the Miami Hurricanes instead of Kansas State, he does his grocery shopping unrecognized.

Rodriguez was a celebrity in Manhattan, Kansas, where he helped the Wildcats to the Big 12 co-championship in 2013. But the college town of 56,000 is a little different from Miami, Rodriguez notes with a smile.

He says attending Kansas State was a great experience, but he wanted to be closer to his family in Puerto Rico. So he transferred to Miami, sat out last season and is now poised to start at point guard for a young and small but promising Hurricanes team. He walks across campus unnoticed, but that could change if his season goes the way the Hurricanes hope.

Blue Jays Regrouping for District Play

After the disappointing 16-7 loss to the Manhattan Indians last week the Junction City Blue blue jay logoJays have to put it behind them and get ready for district play.

It begins Friday night at Wichita Southeast.

Junction City will enter the game 4-2 overall while Southeast is 0-6, but when you begin district play everyone is 0-0 in the race for a postseason playoff berth.

Blue Jay coach Randall Zimmerman said the 0-6 record for the Golden Buffaloes is misleading. “They have athletes all over the field and their schedule has been really tough.” Zimmerman added he expects the Blue Jays to get Southeast’s best shot. We’re hoping they’re going to get our best shot. We worked that way all week long. ”

Kickoff is scheduled at 7 p.m. You can hear the game on the Talk of JC, KJCK AM, and online at kjck.com.
