A Message From Coach Snyder

OU VS KSTATE FOOTBALL

By Bill Snyder

Dear “Family” (Faculty and Staff),

Just a brief note of gratitude once again for all you have meant to Kansas State University and your football program. I am sorry that we let you down with our performance at the Alamo Bowl, but I was proud of our young men for never giving in and for playing so hard in the second half for you and all of the KSU family. I say yours’ and that is the purpose of this note. You truly do represent the values of family as it relates to the University, its faculty and the football program.

Our staff and our players recognize and greatly appreciate it just as I do. You have probably heard me say numerous times that the “family” on our stadium includes you as well as my personal family and all the people past and present who have been a part of this program, which truly includes our faculty and university staff members. I have also said so many times that Kansas State is truly about people caring about people in a very special way. That is truly why we came to Kansas State, why we stayed and why (after a three-year semiretirement) we came back — because of you, “the family.”

Thank you so very much for being such great Wildcats; and for contributing so strongly and passionately to the lives of your students.

Warmest regards,

Bill Snyder, Staff and Football Student-Athletes

P.S. Contrary to all the media TV exposure and money involved in college football, we truly support the concept that our institution is and should be about educating young men and women and providing them with the foundation for becoming successful in all facets of their lives.

Yordano Ventura Overpowering In Royals Win

kcr fourKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Yordano Ventura struck out a career-high 11 in just six innings, Paulo Orlando homered and the Kansas City Royals hung on to beat the struggling Baltimore Orioles 5-3 on Thursday.

Ventura (9-7) allowed two hits and four walks to improve to 5-0 in his last seven starts.

The Royals’ usually solid bullpen nearly gave it away, though. Kelvin Herrera served up a homer to Ryan Flaherty in the seventh, and Greg Holland allowed two more runs in the ninth before getting Gerardo Parra to ground out with a runner on to end the game.

Chris Tillman (9-9), who tossed a five-hitter at Kauffman Stadium last May, followed his first loss since May 31 with another.

The game wasn’t all that Baltimore lost, either.

All-Star outfielder Adam Jones left soon after crashing into the wall trying to track down a fly ball in the first. Jones lay on the warning track for a few minutes before standing up and finishing the inning. There was no word on the nature or severity of the injury.

SEATTLE -Former Kansas State quarterback Jake Waters has been released by the Seattle Seahawks Wednesday, eight days after they signed him. Waters did not play in Seattle’s 14-13 loss to the Chiefs Friday in Kansas City.

Waters, who set the Kansas State single-season passing record at Kansas State last season, has now been released by two teams. After not being drafted, Waters signed a free agent contract with Jacksonville but was let go after just a couple of days.

Cueto Gives Up Three Home Runs In Royals Loss

kcr twoKANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Chris Davis, Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop each hit a two-run homer off Johnny Cueto, and the Baltimore Orioles totaled five long balls in all Wednesday night to power their way to an 8-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals that snapped a six-game skid.

Wei-Yin Chen (8-6) allowed three runs for the Orioles while scattering nine hits over six innings. The losing pitcher against the Royals in Game 3 of last year’s AL Championship Series, he has now gone seven straight starts without a defeat.

Cueto (9-9) labored through five innings for Kansas City, allowing 10 hits and a walk. It was his second consecutive shoddy start after yielding a career-high 13 hits in a loss at Boston.

Danny Duffy (7-6) dodged trouble for most of 5 2-3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks. The left-hander struck out five in a start that began in crisp efficiency and ended with the Orioles threatening to pull ahead in the sixth inning.

Luke Hochevar calmed things down with an inning of relief, though. Kelvin Herrera had no trouble with the rest of the seventh and eighth, and Wade Davis pitched a perfect ninth in place of closer Greg Holland to earn his 12th save.
