Arthur M. “Art” Kidwell

Funeral services for Arthur M. “Art” Kidwell, age 90, of Enterprise, will be 10:30 am Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Enterprise United Methodist Church in Enterprise with Pastor Daniel Vandenburg officiating. Mr. Kidwell passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Enterprise Estates.

He was born December 8, 1928 in Brown County, Kansas the son of Frank E. and Christine (Campbell) Kidwell. He graduated from Powhattan High School and had been a longtime Enterprise area resident.

Art was the owner of Kidwell Poultry Farm in Enterprise and worked his way up from Enterprise rural mail carrier to Post Master working 37 years for the postal service.

He was a 4-H Leader, served as Vice Chairman or Chairman on the boards of Education USD 473, Lions Club, trustees of the United Methodist Church, Enterprise Estates Nursing Center, treasurer of the Mt. Hope Cemetery Board, and a Superintendent of the Poultry Department of the Central Kansas Free Fair. Art also was a weather reporter for the Kansas Weather Service and volunteered on the Smoky Valley Railroad. He also volunteered on several city projects for Enterprise.

On December 11, 1949 Art was united in marriage to Roberta Davidson in Willis, Kansas. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his daughters Janet and husband Larry Sinn of Mahaska, Kansas, Judy and husband Kent Bible of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Carol and husband Darryl Lawson of San Jose, California, son David and wife Anna Kidwell of Louisville, Kentucky, 9 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters Lois Oaks, Frances Hickman, his brother Gene Kidwell and his parents.

Art’s final resting place will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery near Enterprise. His family will be receiving friends from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Enterprise United Methodist Church or to the Children’s Medical Research Foundation and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.

Alvin W. Young

Alvin W. Young, Jr., 66, of Andover, died May 9, 2019 at his residence.  He was born October 11, 1952 the son of Alvin W. Sr. and Alvina (Lenz) Young. Alvin grew up and attended school in San Antonio.  He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany, Vietnam and at Ft. Riley.  Alvin retired from the Army and continued to work at Ft. Riley in the print shop.  He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing with his friends.   He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sherlie Young.

Kye Wol Dyreson

Kye Wol Dyreson, 77, of Junction City, KS, passed away on May 1, 2019.

Visitation will be held Monday May 13, 2019, from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Johnson Funeral Home, 203 N. Washington St., Junction City, KS.

A Graveside service will be held at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd., Manhattan, KS, that same day. For respect to families celebrating morning services at the veterans’ cemetery, family and friends will meet no earlier than 1:00pm at the committal shelter.

Memorials for her family can be directed in care of Johnson Funeral Home.

Kye was born on September 9, 1941 in Seoul, Korea. Growing up, she helped her parents support the family. On March 13, 1979, she married Kenneth G. Dyreson in Seoul. They raised their small family at many duty stations and ultimately settled in Junction City, KS.

Kye was a very talented woman. She was a master chef and would cook her husband, Kenneth, not only Korean cuisine, but anything his heart desired. Besides cooking for her family, she was an avid player of BINGO. She was also a member of many Korean Baptists churches in the area. Her true love in life was her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and adoring grandmother. Kye was most happy when she was with her family and friends.

She will be dearly missed.

Kye is survived by her loving family: husband, Kenneth of the home; her son Wan (wife Sarah) Kim of Jacksonville, FL; two grandchildren Alex and Hanna; and a host of loving family and friends.

Mildred “Millie” Jean Pearson

Mildred “Millie” Jean Pearson, 86, of Junction City, KS. passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019 at Geary Community Hospital. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Junction City. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will follow the service at Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to either the Alzheimer’s Association or to Faith Lutheran Church.

Millie was born July 27, 1932, in Alexandria, MN. the daughter of Paul and Alice Bernice (Johnson) Angeldorf.

Millie graduated from Central High School in Alexandria, MN. with the class of 1950. She worked for the Fort Riley Commissary for many years. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday School for many years. She also served with the Lutheran Church Women. Millie was a wonderful seamstress. She made many baby blankets for friends and families. Millie also served the community of Junction City many years volunteering delivering meals to the elderly for twenty five years. Millie grew up on a farm and she loved the outdoors working in her garden and planting flowers.

She married James W. Pearson January 19, 1952, in St. Paul, MN.

Survivors include her husband James of the home in Junction City; one son, Michael Pearson of Manhattan, KS; one daughter, Alicia Martindale and her husband Jeff of Sioux City, IA; one brother, Don Angeldorf of San Antonio, TX; one sister, Margaret Quinn of St. Paul, MN; four grandchildren, Jessica Jackson of Webb City, MO, Matthew Bruton of Joplin, MO, Andrew Bruton of Joplin, MO and Dawn O’Neill of Quincy, MA; five great-grandchildren, Ian, Tyee, Alyvia, Zoe and Baby Faye on the way.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Doris DeLoach and Helen Krause; one daughter, Vickie Senrud; one granddaughter, Lindsey Seefeldt.

Robert E. “Robbie” Bottorff

Funeral services for Robert E. “Robbie” Bottorff, age 50, of Abilene, will be 1:30 pm Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Abilene with Reverend John Collins officiating. Mr. Bottorff passed away Monday, May 6, 2019 at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina.

Robbie was born January 2, 1969 in Abilene, the son of Robert Michael “Mike” and Barbara Jean (Sherraden) Bottorff. He graduated from Manhattan High School in 1989. He had been with OCCK for over 20 years working for the Eisenhower Center, Land Pride, and for the Abilene Recycle Center.

Robbie is survived by his mother Barbara Jean of Abilene, uncle Jim Bottorff of Abilene, and aunt Patty Bottorff of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his father Mike Bottorff on October 13, 1972.

Cremation is planned. Robbie’s final resting place will be in the Prairie Mound Cemetery near Solomon. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm Friday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dickinson County Foundation and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.

Troy L. Hash

Funeral services for Troy L. Hash, age 55, of Solomon, will be 1:00 pm Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home in Solomon with Pastor Stan Norman officiating. Mr. Hash passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019 at his home in Solomon.

He was born July 27, 1963 in Hanford, California the son of Troy H. and Sylvie (Vineyard) Hash (Vineyard) Hash.

Troy had been a longtime Solomon resident and was the owner of Troy’s Plumbing. He enjoyed boating and camping.

He is survived by his wife Julie Gray of the home, daughters Jessica and JoAnne of Arkansas, stepdaughter Krista Radke of Solomon and step son Brian Jones of Solomon, and his sister Renae McAnally of Solomon.

The family has selected cremation. Visitation will be 5:30–6:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home in Solomon.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Troy L. Hash Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the Carlson-Becker Funeral Home, P.O. Box 308, Solomon, Kansas 67480.

Encarnacion Mayo Dela Cruz

Encarnacion Mayo Dela Cruz, 88, of Junction City, died Saturday, May 4, 2019 at her home in Junction City. Encarnacion was born April 22, 1931 in San Carlos City, Pangasinan, Philippines the daughter of Emiliano and Feliciana (Padlan) Mayo.

Encarnacion grew and attended school in the Philippines. She was a homemaker.

She moved to Junction City in 1990 with her husband, Ramon. She was a member of St. Xavier Catholic Church.

Encarnacion married Ramon P. Dela Cruz in 1947 in San Carlos City, Philippines. Ramon died November 6, 2009.

Survivors include: 5 sons, Bernardo Dela Cruz and his wife Belia, San Diego, Calif., Rogelio Dela Cruz and his wife Lene, Junction City, Fernando Dela Cruz and his wife Aurelia, San Carlos City, Philippines, Rey Dela Cruz and his wife Ruth, Junction City, and Zaldy Dela Cruz and his wife Lea, Junction City; 3 daughters, Maria Padilla and her husband Andy, Junction City, Arsenia DeLeon and her husband Leonardo, Philippines, and Adela Dela Torre and her husband Willie, Junction City; her grandchildren Vaughn (Maia), Velynda (Steven), Vernier De Guzman, Arnold, Lorna, Lotlot, Albert, and Lenlen De Leon, Vernaliza (Kylan), Brian, Kevin, and Charlene Dela Cruz, Fernando Jr., Hazel, and Alvin Dela Cruz, Mary Ann (Cyjay), Kathleen, Kelly Ann, Kenneth Dela Cruz, Julie Ann (Kevin), Juanito Jr. (Haley) Veniegas, Shantee, Shawna, Shiria Dela Torre, Jaylan Kyle, Alyssa Marie, Ariana Maris Padilla, Enrico, Zyrel, Lezyl Dela Cruz, Ryan Macrae, and Raeanne Mauve Dela Cruz; and 24 great grandchildren. She preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a daughter, Virginia DeGuzman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2019 at St. Xavier Catholic Church, with Fr. Kyle Berens presiding. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will greet friends 6:00 p.m-8:00 pm. on Friday evening, May 10, at Johnson Funeral Home. A Rosary Service will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to Maria Lourdes Padilla.

Dr. E. Hamrick “Rick” Swan

Dr. E. Hamrick “Rick” Swan, Jr. age 70, of Manhattan, Kansas, died of a heart attack that resulted in a single car accident in Blue Rapids, Kansas, on Saturday, April 27, 2019. No other cars were involved. He was born February 21, 1949, in Goldsboro, N.C., the son of Col. Edward H. Swan and Jean (Finch) Swan, and grew up in Venice, Florida.

Dr. Swan married Frances “Fran” Jean Miller at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Louisville, Ky., on June 8, 1972. The marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Rick and Fran had eight children together. He and his family were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Manhattan, Marysville, and Junction City. Dr. Swan served as Bishop for the Junction City Ward from 1976-1978. He was also branch president of the Marysville Mormon Church from 1978-1982.

Dr. Swan studied pre dental at Florida State University from 1967-1969, then earned his Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in May 1974. He served as a dentist in the Army at Fort Riley, Kansas, 1974-1976, and opened his first dental practice in Herington, KS, in 1976. Upon the closure of the Rock Island Railroad Dr. Swan was offered a position as a dentist in Marysville, KS, in 1978 where he practiced for 13 years. He started a second dental office in Manhattan, KS, in 1989, where he continued to practice with the help of his wife, Fran, and daughters Ama and Sarah, until his death.

Dr. Swan loved spending time with his family and was always a kid at heart. He recorded cartoons to watch with his grandchildren and collected memorabilia such as Star Wars, Beanie Babies, and other classic toys, including a full size pinball machine. Dr. Swan had a great ability to find humor in everyday life and his deep boisterous chuckle is likely remembered by everyone who know him. Dr. Swan went by many names including Doctor, Rick, Bishop, Dad and Papa. He was a rock for his family and his community. He was a kind man and will be missed.

Dr. Swan was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Abella Sariah Rose. He is survived by his wife Frances Swan, Manhattan, KS; sister Mary and her husband Joe of N.C., and eight children: Jared Swan, Omaha, Ne., Rainey Swan, Seattle, Wash., Lehi (Kim) Swan, Prairie village, Kan., Rebecca (Travis) Orchard, Saluda, Colo., Elisha Schuepbach, Fairway, Kan., Ama (Travis) Benoist, Salina, Kan., Sarah Swan, Manhattan, Kan., and Missy (Dustin) Branick, Raymore, Mo., and 19 grandchildren: Jackson Swan, Sam Swan, Kenady Swan, Chloe Swan, Will Swan, Langston Hochard, Wynston Hochard, Laurell Stegelman, Dublin Stegelman, Frank Schuepbach, Roman Schuepbach, Mahpiya Benoist, Mato Benoist, Lullaby Aurora, Augusta O’Hara, Oliver Branick, Myla Branick, Ben Branick and Eli Branick.

Family viewing will be held from noon to 3:00 pm at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, Tuesday, May 7th, 2019. Public viewing will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Marlatt Avenue in Manhattan, Kan. at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

Robert W. “Bobb” Stokes

The Lord saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, so He put his arms around you and whispered, “Come with me”. Robert W. “Bobb” Stokes went with the Lord on Sunday April 28, 2019 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan, Kansas at the age of 70.

He was born on May 2, 1948 in Bellefontaine, Ohio the son of Fred and Betty (Davis) Stokes. Bobb served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict. Following his military service, he earned his B.A. from Antioch College, his duel Masters from Ohio State University and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University in 1984. He held many titles and Professor duties in his career and retired as Department Head at Kansas State University in 2017. He was named Professor Emeritus in 2018.

On March 5, 1976, he was united in marriage to Pamela Butler in Springfield, Ohio. This union was blessed with three daughters: Genna, Addie and Sarah.

Bobb had a tremendous love for music, especially rock and roll and the blues. His students knew how to get him “off topic” by asking him a music question. He enjoyed collecting, refurbishing and playing old guitars and ukuleles. Above all, he loved being with his family, especially the grandchildren.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Chi Epsilon, Tau Beta Pi, Tau Sigma Delta, a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers along with many others. He also earned the honor of being a Life Scout and was a member of the Order of the Arrows.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters: Ritie Lanter and Jackie Stokes and his brother: Jake Stokes.

Survivors include his beloved wife: Pam Stokes; his three daughters: Genna Hirsch of Manhattan, Addie Stokes of Manhattan and Sarah Lambert (Alex) of Bowling Green, KY; three grandchildren: Haleigh Hirsch, Ellie and Winnie Lambert along with many nieces, nephews and other family members.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday May 7, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church, Manhattan, Kansas with Rev. Troy Bowers officiating. Private inurnment of the ashes will be at a later date.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church.

Lisa Ann Wilburn

Lisa Ann Wilburn, 58, of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away Sunday May 5, 2019 at Morris County Hospital, after a 5-and-a-half-year courageous battle with cancer.

She was born December 9, 1960 in Council Grove to Wayne and Donna Hayes. She graduated from Council Grove High School and attended Crum’s Beauty School. She was employed by Eric Nelson at Neosho Gardens for over 25 years.

Lisa enjoyed camping, casinos, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was proceeded in death by her father, Wayne Hayes, mother in law, Mary Vliet-Zerbe, and sister in law, Cindy Nelson.

She is survived by her husband, Larry, her mother, Donna Hayes; daughter, Erin Erichsen and Matt, daughter, Erica Effland and Kaleb, and daughter, Larisa Wilburn. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Brylee, Hudson, and Harrison Erichsen, and Quinn Effland; brothers, Brad Hayes (Kristie) and Michael Hayes (Gina); sister in law, Renee; and many nieces and nephews.

Lisa’s family invites close friends and family to join them at 11:00 am Thursday, prior to the service for a luncheon.

A celebration of Lisa’s life will be held Thursday, May 9th 2019 at the United Methodist Church of Council Grove/Dunlap at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Sunny Slope Cemetery.

A special thank you to Dr. Lora Siegle, Dr. Eric Carlson, and her many caregivers who helped her throughout her cancer journey. Lisa never fought alone.
