Myrtle Crenshaw Patterson

Myrtle Crenshaw Patterson, 97, entered into eternal peace on, July 19, 2019 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, Kansas. In her final days she was surrounded by her children and close family friends that she touched during her life. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Second Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Larry E. Jones officiating.  Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Friday, July 26, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Johnson Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions have been designated to the Good Shepherd Hospice House.

Myrtle Crenshaw, daughter of the late Maud Maxwell Crenshaw and John Crenshaw was born December 28, 1921 in Taylor, Texas. She grew up in Williamson County, Texas and was educated in the Taylor Independent School District.

She was united in holy matrimony to McKinley Patterson in 1943 their union was blessed with eleven children. McKinley preceded her in death on February 25, 1992.

Myrtle, a longtime resident of Junction City, Kansas, was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She enjoyed the holidays and ceremoniously decorated her house for each season and holiday. She was a lover of sports but particularly a football fan. She loved the Kansas City Chiefs and Sundays you would find her dressed in fan gear ready to cheer them on. Spending time with her meant watching endless marathons of old western series such as Gunsmoke or Bonanza. Myrtle also loved detective shows and probably watched every episode of Murder She Wrote and Matlock.

Myrtle was a sweet, kind, compassionate woman. Her spirit will continue to live on in her children, her beauty will transcend time and her love will leave as a legacy for the generations to come. As the matriarch she was the rock, heart and soul of her family, she will be missed.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her devoted son, Raymond Patterson (2014); her parents John Crenshaw (1932) and Maud Hughes; siblings, Carrie Black, Berline Harrison and Eric Crenshaw.

She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her loving children, Arlene Courtney, San Antonio, Texas; McKinley Patterson, Jr., Denver, Colorado; Virgie Lee Baldwin, Junction City, Kansas; Annette (Chuck) Lewis, Daly City, California; Marion Smith, Aurora, Colorado; Betty (Brian) Coleman Junction City, Kansas; Yvonne Warren, Junction City, Kansas; Babbette (Walter) Carr, Junction City, Kansas; Tracy Smith, Aurora, Colorado; and Valerie Guy, Junction City, Kansas. She is also survived by twenty five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Patsy Eckart

Patsy Eckart, 88, died on July 18, 2019. Patsy was born on July 24th, 1930 in Belvue, KS to Frances and Fred Lippincott.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Joseph A, two sisters and their husbands, Marjory Repp (Floyd) and Betty Feyh (Chester Dale), brothers-in-law, Delbert Eckart and Larry Eckart, Gene Bellinder, Bill Carson, sisters-in-law Barbara (Bobsey) Eckart  and  Rita Carson  and great grand-daughter, Grace Henderson.  Two nephews, Larry and John Repp also preceded her in death.

She is survived by four children and their families, Deborah Shaddy, (Leavenworth, KS), Brad Eckart (Pam), Michigan, Becky Henderson (Chris), Ballymoney, Northern Ireland, and Scott Eckart (Kerith), Washington DC.  Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Amy Loehr (Eric) Shawnee, KS,  Jodi Eckart (Gonzalo Jimenez Moreno), Granada, Spain, Bryan Eckart (Lindsey), Denver, CO,  Megan Eckart, Stafford, VA, Mark Henderson (Tina), Glasgow Scotland,  Craig Henderson, (Laura), Coleraine,  Northern Ireland, Adam Henderson, Ballymoney, Northern Ireland, and Sophia, Everett, and Amelia Eckart, Washington, DC.  Patsy was also fortunate to have met and known all but two of her eight great-grandchildren, Madeline, Griffin, and Caitlin Loehr, Elsa and Adela Jimenez Eckart, Gloria Eckart, and Nathan and Ailsa Henderson.  She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Margie Bellinder and Glenda Eckart as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Patsy was employed for many years at what was then the Wamego Sand Company, (now Midwest Concrete).  She loved being active and was involved in many social and civic activities.  She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Wamego, serving at times on the parish council, on the funeral dinner ministry and as a lector.  Patsy and Joe square danced with Dutch Mill Swingers.  She was a member of the G. F. W. C. Wamego Study Club, serving two terms as President, and until recently was the secretary of the Wamego Historical Society.  She was an avid card player, growing up playing pitch and pinochle and participated in several bridge groups as well as a regular cribbage group.   With family living abroad, Patsy was fortunate to have the opportunity to travel internationally both with Joe and her sister and brother-in-law, and on her own, having one of her 85th birthday celebrations in Ballymoney, Northern Ireland.

Family and friends will remember Patsy as a great hostess and wonderful baker.  Food and family were very important to you.   If you knew her, you can be sure she remembered your favorite cookie, cake or pie.

The family is grateful to Patsy’s wide circle of family and friends who faithfully visited and supported her during her illnesses over the last two years.  The family is also grateful to the staff of Vintage Park Assisted Living and Great Plains Hospice for their devoted care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at the St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego, KS.  Burial will be at the St. Bernard Cemetery.  A Vigil Service will start at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 22nd at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego.  The family has suggested memorials to the St. Bernard Catholic Church or the Wamego Historical Society, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.

Paula R. Brunson

Paula R. Brunson, age 79, of Manhattan, died July 20, 2019, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, with her husband by her side.

She was born February 5, 1940, in Los Angeles, CA, the daughter of Paul and Frances (Case) Harmon, and had been a Manhattan resident for 51 years.

On March 28, 1965, at the First United Methodist Church in Oberlin, KS, she was married to Charles Brunson.

She was a Registered Nurse for many years before retiring to stay home and devote her time to her family.

Paula was a member of University Christian Church where she was involved in several Bible studies and loved singing in the choir. She also spent several years investing her life teaching Sunday school. She was a past member of the Nurses Association.

Survivors include her husband of Manhattan; four children: Shanna Gray and her husband Scott of Des Moines, IA, Brian Brunson and his wife Anita of Austin, TX, Darin Brunson and his wife Alicia of Savannah, GA, and Teresa Brunson of Manhattan; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and three siblings: Jim Harmon (Marilyn) of Williamsburg, KS, William Harmon (Pam) of Plainville, KS, and Clara Hammerschmidt (Jim) of Baton Rouge, LA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Friday, July 26th, at the University Christian Church, 2800 Claflin Road, Manhattan, with Bill Shea officiating. Interment will be in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 P.M. Friday at the church prior to the service.

Jeraldine (Jerri) Helen Steinlage (Leavitt)

Jeraldine (Jerri) Helen Steinlage (Leavitt) was born in Arkansas and grew up in a military family. She attended Manhattan High School and Kansas State University. Jerry was a member of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan.

She passed way Friday night, July 19, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family, just as she wished. She was a devoted mother and grandma and always put her family first, it was important for her to take care of her parents when they fell ill.

Jerri had a great sense of humor, she loved to read and day dream, and enjoyed playing games. She successfully created and ran a day care center for ten years, she also worked for a period of time for the U.S. Census.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Helen Leavitt, and her little brother, James W. Leavitt.

Jerri is survived by her sons, Bradley McCabe (Sophia), Robert Mitchell (Jennifer), and Steven Mitchell; her grandkids: Stacey, Jeremy, Samuel, Nicholas, Kaden, Paige, Samantha, Adriona, Ryleigh, and Robert Jr. Also her nieces; Megan, Cathy, Jackie, and Maggie; her nephews, Brad and Andy; her brothers: Carlton, John, Joseph Peter; and her sisters: Stella and Susan.

A Parish Vigil Service with the Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday July 23, 2019 at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel. The family will greet friends following the Vigil Service until 7:30 p.m.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 24, 2019 at the Seven Dolors Catholic Church, with Father Kerry Ninemire as the Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

The family suggests memorial contributions in memory of Jerri to the Neurofibromatosis-2 Research. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, Kansas 66502.

Ernest “Ernie” Hoyle

Ernest “Ernie” Hoyle, age 93, passed away peacefully in the loving care of the Chapman Valley Manor on July 18, 2019 in Chapman, KS. He was always dedicated to his family and loyal to his friends. He was a colorful storyteller and a lucky card player. He played the piano by ear, loved big band music, and dancing. He liked to talk politics and he loved his Royals baseball.

He was born June 7, 1926 in Dwight, KS to Webster Bundy and Sylvia Maybelle (Stewart). He grew up on the family farm with 8 brothers and sisters – Elizabeth S. (Wafler), Ruby Catherine (Bantam), Charles W., Ralph E., Harold E., Helen L. (Hunter), Lora M. (Montgomery) and Harvey E. He attended a Quaker school and graduated from Dwight Rural High School in 1944. He was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 830 in Junction City, KS.

Ernie married Joan C. (Fulton) on February 18, 1961 in Junction City, KS. Together they raised three children –Carla A (Bud) Tuxhorn, Sylvia K (Will) Hollis, and Bruce Hoyle. Ernie worked Civil Service at Ft. Riley, KS while continuing to run the family farm until 1966, when they moved to Junction City, KS. He retired from Civil Service in 1985 and then as Fleet Services and Building Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Junction City until 1995.
He moved to Chapman, Kansas to be near his wife when she resided in Chapman Valley Manor. She preceded him in death. He is survived by his children and their spouses; 8 grandchildren – Beni (James) Porter, Cori Tuxhorn, Clarissa (Harold) Hanson, Chelsea (Nick) Mendez, Cierra VanNahmen, Brittany (James) Jones, Brooke (Michael) Gursky, Bethany (Pete) Husband; 12 great grandchildren – Easton, Payson & Landry Porter, Charli, Eden & Britton Deill, Josephine (Josie) Hanson, Willow Mendez, Wyatt, Bryar & Garrett Gursky and Genevieve (Genny) Husband; and his sister Lora and many nieces and nephews.

Private family graveside services will be followed by a Celebration of Life and pitch card party at 2 PM on Thursday, July 25th at the Chapman Senior Citizen Center in Chapman, KS. Memorial contributions can be made to Chapman Sr. Citizen Center and the birdseed fund at Chapman Valley Manor in care of Londeen Funeral Home, PO Box 429, Chapman, KS 67431.

Patricia Duggan

Patricia Duggan, age 83, of Manhattan, died July 17, 2019, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.

She was born March 5, 1936, and was adopted by Elmer and Pauline (Lukins) Whitham.

Patricia graduated from Madison High School in 1954, and then earned her Registered Nursing Degree from Newman School of Nursing in Emporia, KS, in 1957.

On May 21, 1960, at Assumption Church in Reading, Kansas, she was married to Andrew Patrick “Pat” Duggan.

Patricia worked as a Registered Nurse at the Newman Hospital in Emporia and at Memorial Hospital in Manhattan.

She was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church.

Patricia enjoyed watching sports and game shows on TV and doing crossword puzzles. Most of all she was devoted to her family.

Survivors include her husband of Manhattan; four children: Diane Stumpf of Auburn, KS, Andrew Patrick Duggan, Jr., of Manhattan, James Joseph Duggan of Manhattan, and Ronald Francis Duggan of Shawnee, KS, and their spouses; two siblings: Milton Tyler of Big Run, PA, and Colleen Goodloe of El Paso, TX; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Patricia was preceded in death by three siblings: James Benz, Norma Bishop and Angie Lane.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 23rd, at the Seven Dolors Catholic Church with Father Kerry Ninemire as Celebrant. Interment will follow in the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley.

A Parish Vigil will be held at 6:00 P.M. Monday, July 22nd, at the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends following the Vigil until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Donna Marie Krause February 25, 1938 – July 15, 2019 (Age 81)

Donna Marie Krause was born west of Latimer, February 25, 1938, to Paul F. and Hildegard Emilie (Tiede) Krause.  She was baptized on March 18, 1938, at the Zion Lutheran Churchin Latimer.  She had two brothers, Paul J. Krause who went by Junior, and a younger brother,  Roger.  She was confirmed on May 18, 1952, by Rev. Otto Mueller, at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Donna graduated from Herington High School with the class of 1956.  She worked at the Duckwall’s  Store in Herington (currently,  the local drug store) from 1956 until 1981.  She went to work in Junction City at Alco from 1981 – 1992.  She worked two years in Herington at the Dreilings Department Store before retiring.  She was a member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

The death of brother, Paul J. Krause, on October 27, 1984, was unexpected.  Donna became very close and protective of her parents. She was preceded in death by her father in October 1991, and her mother in December of 1998.  She was a loving and devoted daughter.  She supported her mother with the care of her father and she cared for her mother to the very end.

Remembering her devotion to her parents, her brother, Roger, and his son, Matthew were as kind and caring to her. She is survived by brother, Roger Krause of Herington; 3 nephews, Matthew Krause (Elizabeth) of Solomon, Robert Krause of Kansas,  Kevin Krause of Kentucky; two nieces, Karen Jo Krause of Kansas, Julie Morris (Larry) of Kentucky; two great nephews; Logan and Spencer Krause, five other nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 22, 2019, at the Sunset Hill Cemetery- Herington, with Rev. Mark Lovett, officiating. The casket bearers for the service will be Larry Tiede, Jayce Krause, Alan, Rock, Jacob Riffel, Sam Riffel, and Russell Riffel.

The family requests memorials to the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Herington; and may be sent in care of the Yazel-Megli-Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington Chapel,  404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS 67449-3038.

Anna Christine Stutler

Anna Christine Stutler, 51, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at her home in Junction City. A visitation will be held 6-8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2019 at the Johnson Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions are suggested to be given to the Anna Christine Memorial Fund c/o Johnson Funeral Home.

Anna was born February 25, 1968, in Columbus, Ohio the daughter of Barbara Lee Strohl.

Anna graduated from Junction City High School with the class of 1986. After high school she attended the Manhattan Area Vocational School graduating with a nursing degree. She worked for Geary Community Hospital, Golden Living Center, Salina Regional Hospital and Via Chrsti Care Facility in Manhattan, KS. Anna enjoyed her family and spending time with her dogs Lucy and Lilly. Anna was a free spirit that enjoyed life to the fullest. Her passion was to make others laugh and taking care of others.

She is survived by two brothers, Nolan Stutler of White City, KS and Curtis Stutler, Jr. of Johnson City, TN; one sister, Debra Terrell of Johnson City, TN; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Nancy (Jones) Farley

Nancy (Jones) Farley, 88, of Manhattan, KS passed away Monday, July 15, 2019 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

She was born in Philadelphia, PA on April 29, 1931.  She graduated from Treadwell High School in Memphis, TN and received an Associate’s degree from Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, CO.  After raising her family, she worked at the college’s accounting office for more than 12 years.

She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Farley of more than 67 years.  She also leaves behind four children, William S. “Bill”, Jr., Paul L. (Leslie), Jean Tracy (Jerry), and Ann Vrchota (Jim); eight grandchildren, Charlene Chacon (Oscar), Christina Spanier (Seth), Father Philerat (Williams S. IV), Courtney Montgomery (Shannon), Peter Farley, Reid Tracy (Rachel), Virginia Farley, and Spencer Hayward; four great-grandchildren, Dylan Spanier, Elora Montgomery, Max Chacon, and Ryan Spanier; and a sister, Barbara Kehayes.

Nancy had a natural talent in the field of art, from building parade floats and costume design in her youth to painting and drawing in various media, and including mosaics and stained glass, later in life.  A skilled seamstress, she loved making clothing for family members in their youth.  She also enjoyed gardening, photography and, both foreign and domestic travel with family members and friends.  She possessed a strong desire to lead an interesting life and her inner strength and wisdom provided guidance to her offspring throughout her adult life.

Funeral service for Nancy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2019 at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego.  Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Manhattan.  Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, July 21st at the funeral home.   The family has suggested memorials to the American Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice, and may be left in the care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.

Dean Arthur Dawson

Dean Arthur Dawson, 63, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away with his wife by his side on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at Stormont-Vail Heath Center in Topeka.  He was a long-time resident of the community.

Dean was born October 25, 1955 in Sarpy City, Nebraska while his father Harry and Mary (Query) Dawson were stationed at Offutt AFB.

Dean graduated from Wamego High School in 1973 and relocated to California before moving back to Wamego in 1986.

While in California Dean met and married his first wife Dorothea Holden and they had two daughters Trinity and Trisha.  They were later divorced.  In 1988 Dean met his best friend who later became his wife Diane Blankley. They were married on June 10, 1995 in South Lake Tahoe. Together they built a home for future grandchildren to enjoy.  Diane survives at their home.

Dean went back to school at Highland Community College and then Kansas State University and finished his degree in 1992 in Park Management Resources, following his love for the outdoors.

Dean held many careers including positions with CalTrans in California, management with Western Auto in Wamego, and territory sales manager with Mid West Engine Warehouse before he had to retire due to medical issues.

Dean and Diane enjoyed traveling to spend time with their grandchildren in Olathe and California. They loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Yellowstone, The Black Hills, Grand Canyon, Cruise to Mexico and Belize, and Arches National Park. Dean’s hobbies included projects around the house which included building several decks,  tinkering with gadgets, and spending time with his family, including his fur babies. He was a proud member of the NRA and an avid coin collector.

He is also survived by his two daughters, Trinity Counts (Jeff) of Yuba City, California and Trisha Bulger (Jake) of Olathe;  eight grandchildren, Corey Counts (Hayleigh), Katelyn Counts, Ava Bulger, Jaxon Counts, Anna Counts, Wyatt Bulger, Hadley Jo Bulger, and Eleanor Bulger; his three siblings Mark Dawson (Sherri), Wichita, Kay Grunewald (Dennis), Wamego and Kenneth Dawson (Jeanette), Caliente, California; several nieces and nephews; his beloved pets, Splash and Miss T. and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Mary.

Funeral services ill be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, 2019 at Campanella Evans Mortuary in Wamego. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Wamego City Cemetery.  Dean will lie-in-state on Friday, beginning at 3:00 p.m. and the family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. until service time. They suggest memorial contributions to Stormont-Vail for a family room or Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center, and those may be sent in care of the mortuary.
