Arlene Louise Wood

Arlene Louise Wood, age 79 of Wakefield, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at the Geary Community Hospital in Junction City.

She was born on October 19, 1939 in Milford, the daughter of Robert and Ruby (Koerner) Berry.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Milford Congregational Church.

Matilde M. De Rosario

Matilde M. De Rosario, 80, of Junction City, KS, passed away on August 5, 2019.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 9, from 6:00 pm. to 8:00 pm. at the Johnson Funeral Home of Junction City, 203 N. Washington St.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 10, 12:00 pm at the Primera Iglesia Latina Ebenezer of Junction City, 1015 N. Washington St.

Burial will follow the services at Highland Cemetery of Junction City.

Don Olsen

Don Olsen, age 74 of Randolph, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at his residence.

He was born on March 17, 1945.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, August 12, 2019 at the Randolph United Methodist Church with Pastor Sandy Ferguson officiating.  Inurnment will be in the Randolph Fancy Creek Cemetery.  Following the graveside service there will be a visitation and picnic at their ranch.

Memorials have been established for the Kansas Junior Charolais Association, Riley County 4-H Foundation and the Randolph United Methodist Church.  Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.

Clyde M. Venneberg

Clyde M. Venneberg, 100 of Solomon passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2019. He was born December 2, 1918 in Havensville, Kansas the son of Arthur and Effie (Kroth) Venneberg. He attended the local schools in Havensville and graduated in 1936. Clyde served in the United States Army during WWII as an Army Staff Sgt. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. On June 27, 1948 he was united in marriage to Erabell Johnson at the Solomon United Methodist Church. She preceded him in death November 10, 1993.

Clyde was the Solomon High School AG teacher from 1946-1965, Solomon Guidance Counselor from 1965-1968 and later became Principal of Solomon High School USD 393 from 1968-1983. He was a member of the Lions Club, Isis Shrine and Eastern Star, and a 70 year member of the Masonic Lodge all of Solomon and a member of the Dickinson County Retired Teacher’s.

Clyde is survived by his daughter, Marianna Carney and husband Ken of Solomon. Three granddaughters: Caitlin Carney, Connor Boyd, and Carson Carney. Four great-grandchildren and one sister, Mary Fletchall. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Erabell, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral Services for Clyde will be 10:30 A.M., Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Solomon United Methodist Church with Pastor Ever Mudambanuki officiating. Burial will follow at the Prairie Mound Cemetery near Solomon with graveside Masonic Rites and Military Honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6-8pm at Carlson-Becker Funeral Home in Solomon. The family suggests memorials be given to the Hospice of Dickinson County or to the Solomon High School Scholarship Fund. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Carlson-Becker Funeral Home P.O. Terry Joe Trobough

Terry Joe Trobough, age 78, of Manhattan, died August 3, 2019, at Ascension Via Christi Village in Manhattan.

He was born August 18, 1940, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Robert Lee and Mildred (Walker) Trobough.

Terry retired as Command Sergeant Major from the United States Army after 27½ years of service. He was a decorated soldier and was very dedicated to those in his command. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 5 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and the Army Service Ribbon.

Following his military service he was an insurance agent for NCOA Insurance Company for several years.

Terry was a member of the Junction City HOG (Harley Owners Group). He and his wife Edie loved to ride the motorcycle and traveled extensively for many years.

He was married to Edie (Rach) Adams on June 11, 1995, in Manhattan. Mrs. Trobough survives of Manhattan. Additional survivors include his daughter Patricia Trobough of Houston, TX; one brother Ted Trobough of Houston, TX; three step-children: Steven Adams (Ruth) of Interlachen, FL, Jeffery Adams of Manhattan, and Diana Miller (Tommy) of Colorado Springs, CO; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Terry was preceded in death by his two sons Bill and Bobby Trobough.

Private family graveside services with full military honors will be held at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley.

Memorial contributions may be made to either the Wounded Warriors Project or the Alzheimer’s Association. Contributions may be left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Avenue, Manhattan, KS 66502.

Lynda Sue Depew

Lynda Sue Depew, 59, of Westmoreland, Kansas, passed away August 5, 2019, at Good Shepherd Hospice House, Manhattan.  Lynda fought a long, hard battle with cancer always keeping her chin up with a “let’s fight this” attitude right up to the last couple of months.

Lynda was born August 31, 1959, at the Clay Center hospital, the daughter of Connie and Cecile “Sissy” Green Depew.  She attended grade school in Greenleaf and Wheaton.  She graduated from Onaga High School.  Lynda began working at the Westmoreland Community Care Home on June 1, 1977 in the office as an Administrative Assistant and as a Certified Nursing Aide.  She continued employment there for 42 years.

In her early years, Lynda worked at Wheaton Mercantile and Louisville Bar and Grill.

Lynda’s passions in life were caring selflessly for the young and old. She was always willing to provide transportation or what ever help she could supply.  Lynda loved her dogs, Muffin and Sweetie, both of which she adopted from residents’.  She even remembered family dogs at Christmas. Spending time with family and friends was important to her. She enjoyed traveling with her family and always offered a story or an opinion.  Lynda’s favorite past time was playing bingo with her favorite bingo pal, Nancy Kramer. She will be greatly missed by all who know and love her.

Lynda was preceded in death by her parents, Connie and Sissy and her grandparents.  She is survived by her brother, Chuck (Barb) Depew of Wamego, niece Marissa (Shaun) Ostrander of Roeland Park, nephew Brandon (Ashely) Depew of Abilene and great nephews Camden, Casen, and Calen.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, August 31, 2019, at St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church in Blaine, Kansas. Father Mike Peterson and Father Anthony Chendumalli will be Co-Celebrants.  Following the mass, a Celebration birthday party for Lynda will be in the church hall.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Westmoreland Community Care Home or the Blaine Parish Project and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Kufahl Funeral Home.

Joseph Albert Makovec October 14, 1964 ~ August 5, 2019 (Age 54)

Joe’s life began on October 14, 1964, in Marion.  He is the son of Jerry and Faye (Bezdek) Makovec.  Joe is a 1983 graduate of Marion High School and attended Concordia Junior College.  He was employed at Johns Manville in McPherson for nearly 35 years.  Joe enjoyed golf and going fishing.  He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas State fan.  Joe had been a member of the Eagles Lodge in Newton and parishioner at Holy Family Parish in Marion.  He enjoyed his pets and most especially loved and cherished his family.  His loving family includes his son Aaron Makovec of Pittsburg, KS, parents Jerry and Faye Makovec of Marion, siblings Donita (Gary) Turk of Lawrence, Jeff Makovec of Halstead, and Tim (Becky) Makovec of Marion; nieces and nephews Adam (Megan) Turk, Brian (Holly) Turk, Chelsea (Tim ) Larson, Erol (Staci) Kinkaid, Morgan Makovec, Dustin Looney, and Tyler Makovec; and ten great-nieces and nephews.  Joe passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019, in McPherson.  His family will gather with friends on Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Yazel-Megli-Zeiner Funeral Home, Marion.  Rosary prayers will be recited on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Parish-St. Mark’s Church, Marion, and Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the church at 11 a.m. on Saturday led by Father Brian Bebak.  Joe will be laid to rest in Marion Cemetery.  Memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the Father Emil Kapaun Legacy Fund.

Ronald John Forkenbrock

Ronald John Forkenbrock, 74, of Manhattan, KS, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Good Shepard Hospice House.

A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at St. Xavier Catholic Church with Fr. Gale Hammerschmidt officiating. Burial will immediately follow Mass at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery with full military honors. A visitation will be held from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 6 at the Johnson Funeral Home with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Isidore’s Catholic Student Center, St. Xavier Catholic Church, or Good Shepherd Hospice House.

Ronald Forkenbrock was born September 8, 1944 in St. Louis, MO the son of Ambrose and Rosemary Forkenbrock.

He graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1962 and Kansas State University in 1967.

Ron married Connie Wolf on December 31, 1966 at St. Xavier Catholic Church in Junction City, KS.

Ron served in the U.S. Army for 23 years and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. During his military service, Ron was stationed at Fort Riley with the First Infantry Division. He worked in Military Intelligence and the Army Space Institute. He retired from Ft. Leavenworth as Lieutenant Colonel.

He was an active member of Manhattan Catbackers, Stagg Hill Golf Course, and St. Isidore’s Catholic parish. Ron was an avid supporter of Kansas State Athletics. He and Connie regularly attended and traveled to football, men and women’s basketball, and baseball games to support student athletes.

Ron is survived by his wife of 52 years Connie Forkenbrock of Manhattan, KS; three children, Jeffry Forkenbrock and Sarah McClain of Chicago, IL, Scott and Jennifer Forkenbrock of Lawrence, KS, Bradley Forkenbrock and Courtney Watson of Kansas City, KS; grandchildren Donnie Ray and Pryse Mc Guire of Kansas City, KS; siblings Pat Cervera of Arvada, CO, Bill and Sandy Forkenbrock of Topeka, KS, and Karen and Gary Eddy of Junction City, KS. Plus, many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents.

George Y. Norris

George Y. Norris, 95, of Junction City, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Valley View Senior Life.

George was born March 31, 1924 to Robert and Maude (Wilson) Norris in Nauvoo, Alabama. He spent his childhood in Nauvoo until entering the U.S. Army in 1943. George attained the rank of Staff Sergeant during his career. George was a veteran of WWII (serving in the Pacific Theater) and the Korean War.

Upon retiring in 1966, he made his home in Junction City, Kansas.

George married Helen M. Burgess on July 5, 1950 and they had four children.

George had a passion for model trains and the Lord.

He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, FOE Lodge #830, and the Earl C. Gormley, Post # 45 of the American Legion.

George is survived by 2 daughters, Wanda Alexander (Stanley), Deatsville, Alabama, and Judy White (Wayne), rural Geary County; 1 son, Robert Norris (Ann), Wichita; 10 grandchildren, and numerous great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his wife Helen, and youngest son, Merlin Jay Norris, Wichita.

Cremation is planned.

A Celebration Of Life Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 9, 2019 at Johnson Cremations Funerals Receptions, Junction City, KS

A inurnment service will be at a later date at the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Ft. Riley, Manhattan, KS.

Darlene J. Mulanax

Darlene J. Mulanax, 91 of Enterprise passed away Friday, August 2, 2019 at Village Manor in Abilene. She was born October 23, 1927 in Enterprise, the daughter of Lincoln and Irene (Knox) Fiedler. Darlene grew up in Enterprise, attended the local schools and graduated from Enterprise High School in 1945 as class valedictorian. She received her Bachelor’s degree in music and voice, graduating from the University of Kansas in 1949. On November 22, 1967 she was united in marriage to Donald Snyder. He preceded her in death October 27, 1997. She later married Orrin “Red” Mulanax April 29, 1999. He preceded her in death September 3, 2008. Darlene worked for JB Ersham’s in Enterprise and later became manager of the Enterprise Credit Union. Darlene played the organ at the Enterprise United Methodist Church for over 40 years. She had a love for music and played at numerous weddings and funerals.

Darlene is survived by her step-daughters, Marty Holt (Norm) and Shelly Snyder. Step-sons, Tim Snyder, Steve Snyder (Janet) and Steve Mulanax (Angela). 10 grandchildren: Matt, Jake, Sydney, Madison, Jeremiah, Lyddia, Matthew, Ashley and Lindsey. 8 great-grandchildren, Destinee, Karsen, Kaden, Camden, Makenzie, Isaac, Colter and Zoe. One niece, Jan Feidler Johnson and one nephew, Gary Feidler. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Donald Snyder and Orrin “Red” Mulanax.

The family has chosen cremation. A graveside memorial service will be 10:00 A.M., Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Abilene City Cemetery with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be given to charity of choice. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene, Kansas 67410.
