New Building Needed for Economic Development Recruiting

There is a need for a new building to use in economic development recruiting in Junction City.

Camso Manufacturing USA LLC took the building that was available to market, explained Mayor Pat Landes. “So we have land but most companies want an existing building to do something with, so they’re ( EDC ) kind of looking around now to try to get the investor group to build a building. And there are some other opportunities regarding a rail line here, we’ll kind of see what happens with that.”

Landes updated the Junction City Commission on the need for a new building this past week.

Students Get Prepared for Back to School

There was a big turnout at Foster Cuts at 109 East 6th Street Sunday for a free back to school haircut and backpack give-away event.

Coordinator Rina Neal said they had 125 backpacks to present to participants and more than 130 youth were signed up for a haircut. “We have over eight barbers in there and stylists cutting hair, from Kansas City, Topeka and then Junction City.”

There was a definite need for this event. Neal stated, “There’s a great need. I know there are other events in the community this school year, and we so appreciate all those community organizations that give back. So this just another venture in terms of giving the free haircuts, and there is a great need.”

Neal credited Dr. Crystal Davis, Phyllis Fitzgerald, Angie Reed and the Combat Veterans Motorycle Association who all assisted with the event on Sunday. The Association assisted with providing some of the book bags.
