Sen. Jerry Moran

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) today issued a statement regarding Senator Pat Roberts’ (R-Kan.) plan to retire from the United States Senate at the end of his term in 2020:

“Senator Pat Roberts has had an impressive tenure as a leader in both the House and the Senate, and has served Kansans honorably as chairman of the House and Senate Agriculture Committees, the Senate Intelligence Committee and the Senate Ethics Committee. Pat’s leadership, wit and ability to bring individuals on both sides of the aisle together, skills he honed in service to our nation as a U.S. Marine, will be missed in Congress. It’s been an honor to work with the senior senator from Kansas on behalf of our state. Thank you, Pat, for your friendship and many years of service.”

Community Cam can help protect the public

The Junction City Police Department has introduced a new program called “Community Cam” which is designed to protect the public and community by curbing crime.

Police want homeowners and businesses with security cameras on their property to register that property with the Police Department.

Police Captain Trish Giordano noted that security camera footage ( video ) is valuable to police. We’ve solved numerous cases, especially having our social media account, we can put a picture of somebody that we want to talk to. Nine times out of ten somebody will call and let us know who that person is.” Giordano said having access to people who have the video will make it faster for police if a crime occurs in a certain area. “Then we can look on our database in that area and have at our fingertips the contact information of the people who have the video so we can get to them right away.”

Registering your security cameras and contact information is voluntary. All information provided to the JCPD is kept confidential and will not be disclosed to others. There is no cost associated with the registration of your security camera.

Homeowners and business owners can register their security camera by visiting the Junction City Police Department and filling out a security camera registration form or by contacting Lt. Scott Popovich at 785-762-5912, extension 3635, or by email at Scott.Popovich@jcks.com where a security camera registration form can be mailed to you.

Statement from Kansas State University President Richard Myers on Sen. Pat Roberts

KSU President Richard Myers

“Sen. Pat Roberts has been a great friend to Kansas State University and an advocate of higher education during his many years of service to Kansas as a senator and congressman. He has been a major supporter of agriculture, helping craft legislation to benefit farmers in Kansas and the nation.

Pat was integral in bringing the National Bio and Agro-defense Facility to Manhattan. He championed the construction of K-State’s Biosecurity Research Institute, which conducts research to protect the country’s food supply and fight bioterrorism. This was key to NBAF being located adjacent to K-State, which has become known as the Silicon Valley of biodefense.

We thank Pat for his many years of service and for being such a distinguished alumnus of Kansas State University.”

D.E. Lacer

A transition is underway right now for D.E.L. Motors at 1737 North Washington Street in Junction City.

Owner D.E. Lacer said he started D.E.L motors 40 years ago and for the last approximate 10 years have been associated with large corporate dealerships. “My wife, my kids, my family in general just made the decision it’s time to go back on our own. That way we can do more in the community of Junction City, Fort RIley. We’re going to be doing a lot of the same things we have been doing as far as pre-owned used cars.”

Lacer stated they will bring on rental cars, and are thinking about the possibility of going back into truck rentals. Lacer said they will be family-owned. His son Joshua Lacer will be general manager, Rick Roberts will oversee the service and finance departments. “Our service department we’re going to really gear it up. We’re going to offer a lot more than we have in the past. Family friend and business associate Mark Hartung will also be an operating partner.

The service department is open for business and operating right now. The automobile sales operation is closed temporarily while they are going through the process of getting the new dealer license and renewing inventory. Lacer is hopeful the vehicle sales operation can resume in a couple of weeks.

County to get new improved web site

Geary County Commissioner Keith Ascher

The Geary County Commission has signed a contract with Civics Plus to design a new more user friendly county web site.

Commissioner Keith Ascher said, “For anybody that’s tried going onto our web site it is a nightmare, it’s not user friendly, it’s needed some attention for quite some time. So we had several of the department heads and our Human Resources Director research for us, and there are several companies out there that will redesign the web site for you.”

The cost of the contract was $35,000 plus an annual maintenance fee. Ascher estimated it would probably take about six months to complete the project.
