The snow on Tuesday began in the late afternoon and continued until early evening with a second round occurring from about 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Crews worked through the night on streets and roads

Road crews have been busy during and in the aftermath of the snow and ice that fell on Tuesday.

Junction City Public Works Director ray Ibarra said most of the arterials and collector streets in the city are in pretty good shape. “We still have some arterials and collectors on the northwest part of town.” Also, in the central area of the city Ibarra noted streets like Chestnut, Spruce and Garfield will be taken care of today ( Wednesday ).

The ice fell first on Tuesday, making streets slick for traffic. Ibarra stated, “Once we got out there it kind of helped everything. But then again we had the snow come in and we looked like we were in pretty good shape about 10 o’clock. And then it snowed again from about 10:30 until about 1 o’clock and that threw us back a little bit.”

Based on the amount of snow received there wasn’t enough for the  City’s Public Works crews to clear streets in residential areas, but Ibarra also made it clear they could in certain cases. “Citizens can call, we can take a look at it, and if we have to do something we understand that some of those areas are a little bit hilly, and you get ice on there and snow and vehicle won’t move very good we’ll come take a look at it, and see what we need to do. ” If action is necessary Ibarra explained they could salt it, plow it, or whatever is necessary.
