Use caution heading home

Following the snow on Friday the Geary County Emergency Management Director, Garry Berges, noted that drivers just need to take their time late in the day. “The roads aren’t real slick,  they’re just snowpacked and icy in spots. When they get a chance get their sidewalks cleaned off, the driveways, any place that people might be at. Also they need to make sure that their car windows are  clear all the way around, and they just need to take their time.”

Snow blanketed the area beginning Friday morning.

While there were not a lot of accidents in Geary County, Berges did confirm that rural firefighters from Geary and Riley counties responded to a small blaze just north of the K-177 – I-70 intersection. The tires on a semi-truck locked up and that started a small fire. Riley County firefighters arrived first on the scene and put the fire out. There was no major damage, and no injuries.
