Lady Jays Capture First – Blue Jay Boys Second in JCHS Invitational Track Meet

small-blue-jayThe Junction City Lady Jays rolled up 176 team points enroute to capturing first place in the JCHS Invitational at Al Simpler Stadium Friday.

Lady Jay first place finishes included:

–Amaya Booker in the 100 meter dash in 12.46, while teammate Lyric Holman finished third in 12.92.

–Amaya Booker won the 200 meter dash in 26.04.

–Tiara Smith captured the 400 meter run in 1:02.28, with teammates Nashaia Nixon and Lyric Holman finishing third and fourth in 1:03.84 and 1:06.03, respectively

–Kienna Newman won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.29

–Alana Kramer finished first in the 300 meter hurdles in 48.72

–The Lady Jay 4 x 100 relay team of Shamya Banks, Makayla Lemons, Amaya Booker, and Lyric Holman captured first in 50.43

–The Lady Jay 4 x 400 relay squad of Tiara Smith, Nashaia Nixon, Alana Kramer and Lyric Holman were first in 4:16.53

–Lillian Stephans finished first in the High Jump with a jump of 4’10

–and Hannah Reynolds won the Shot Put with a throw 36’7.75″ while teammates Sherrie Jones finished second with a throw of 36’3.25″ and Savannah Adams third with a throw of 34’7.

The girls team scores found Junction City with 176 points followed by Great Bend with 106, Salina Central 95, Shawnee heights 81, Salina South 40, Tonganoxie 36, and Kansas City Turner 7.

The Blue Jay boys track team scored 120 points to finish second behind Salina South, who had 139 points.

For the Blue Jay boys Isayiah Moore was second in the 100 meter dash in 11.45 and Demarcus Smith third with a time of 11.64. Moore and Smith were also second and third respectively in the 200 meter dash in 23.33 and 23.54.

Other Blue Jay results included:

–A second place finish by Jacob Lovell in the 3200 meter run in 10:25.37

–Jaylene Brime won the triple jump with a mark of 43′ 3.25.” Antonio Porter finished third in 41′ and 1/2 inch

–Xavier Cason won the shotput with a throw of 53’11.50.”

The boys team scores included Salina South with 139 points, Junction City 120, Shawnee Heights 102.50, Tonganoxie 56.50, Kansas City Turner 47, Salina Central 46 and Great Bend with 43 points.

 

Lady Jay Softball on Thursday Postponed

small-blue-jayJunction City Lady Jay softball at Salina Central today ( Thursday ) has been postponed. It has been rescheduled for May 2nd at Bill Burke Park.

The Lady Jays host Emporia at 4 p.m. Friday at Cleary Field.

The Lady Jay varsity soccer team is scheduled to host Wichita West tonight ( Thursday ) at 6:15 p.m.

Lady Jays Get Soccer Win

small-blue-jayThe Junction City Lady Jay soccer team defeated El Dorado 2-0 on Tuesday evening at Al Simpler Stadium.

The win leaves the Lady Jay record at 1-1. Junction City will host Wichita West Thursday evening, with the j-v match at 5:30 and the varsity at 7 p.m.

Blue Jay Baseball Results

small-blue-jayThe Junction City Blue Jay baseball team opened the season with a split in a doubleheader at Garden City on Monday.

The Buffaloes defeated Junction City in the opening game 6-3 and the Blue Jays picked up a 3-0 win in the second contest.

The Blue Jays play a doubleheader at Emporia at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Lady Jays Skills Clinic for Elem./Middle School athletes

basketball hoop (4)There will be a Lady Jays Skills Clinic this Spring at Junction City High School for athletes in 4th through 6th grade.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of passing, dribbling, and shooting with the Lady Jays.

The clinics are for one hour Monday through Wednesday beginning April 10th and ending May 17th.

The dates are as follows:

  • April 10-12
  • April 17-19
  • April 24-26
  • May 1-3
  • May 8-10
  • May 15-17

Clinics run from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm each date and are free to participate.

Criteria for the Blue Jay Champions Club

–The Club includes includes members of the boys basketball team that have displayed five intangibles of the program, including character, toughness, accountability, family and extra effort. The members successfully completed a list of high achieving goals set throughout the summer and winter. They include 90% attendance to summer workouts, attend summer team camp, participate in one summer tournament, complete required amount of fundraising, no unexcused abscences ( failure to communicate prior to abscence ), show high character on and off the court, 3.0 gpa or higher, five or more community service hours, and volunteer at one Junior Jays practice and / or game.

 

 

Blue Jay Bowling Team Places Second at 6A State Tournament

small-blue-jayThe Junction City Blue Jay boys bowling team captured second place in the Class 6A State Tournament at the Northrock Lanes in Wichita.

Blue Jay coach Brad Adams noted the boys came out and started off the day strong, “a little bit higher than our average and it went straight up from there.” Tyler Gromlovits led the Blue Jays with a third place finish in the individual competition with a score of 699. Teammate Kazerick Smith finished 17th with a 573. “The boys competed hard. We had a very, very, very good day. Couldn’t ask anything more of them.”

In the girls competition the Lady Jays finished sixth. Kasey Holmes led the JCHS girls with a 19th place finish and a score of 546. Bowlers who finished in the top 20 qualified as medalists.

Season Ends for Lady Jay Basketball

jcbLed by their 6’6 sophomore post player Kennedy Brown, the Derby Panthers jumped out to a 16-0 lead after one quarter and rolled on to defeat the Junction City Lady Jays 62-27 in a first-round Class 6A Substate Tournament game in Derby.

Brown scored early and often on plays around the rim and also hit two three point shots from the perimeter to lead everyone in scoring with 27 points. Lady Jay coach Derek Petty noted after the game Brown was going to get some points, “having that size. I thought we could have played her a little better but I give them all the credit in the world. They’re a very good team.”

Derby advances on to the tournament championship game Saturday night with a record of 17-4. Junction City ends the season with a final record of 3-18.

Season Comes to an End for the Blue Jays

small-blue-jayThe Manhattan Indians rolled to a 52-22 victory over the Junction City Blue Jays in the first round of their Class 6A Substate basketball tournament.

The Blue Jays missed some early shots next to the rim, and Manhattan took advantage of Blue Jay turnovers to roll to a 31-16 halftime lead, and never trailed in the second half.

Blue Jay coach Nate Schmitt said Manhattan was probably the best team Junction City played all season. “They play defense, they rebound, they’re consistent, they have a system that works for them. They’re a very good basketball team, and they’re going to probably play a few more games this year.”

Manhattan ( 17-4 ) advances to the tournament championship game against Washburn Rural Friday night. The Blue Jays end the season with a record of 4-17.

Blue Jays Wrap Up State Wrestling Competition

small-blue-jayAryus Jones of Junction City finished second in the Class 6A State Wrestling Tournament in the 182-pound weight class.

Jones lost in the championship finals to Jesse Nunez on an 8-7 decision.

Other Blue Jays who placed in the tournament included:

–Kamari Smith, fourth at 160 pounds

–John Clark, fifth at 152 pounds

–Max Bazan, fifth at 126 pounds.

Junction City finished 11th in the team scoring with 67 points. Manhattan won the team title with 170 points.
