Two longtime volunteer firefighters in Geary County are retiring from those positions.
County Commission Chairman Ben Bennett says Dale Evans and
Vernon Bohn have more than 20 years of experience.
The County will need more volunteer firefighters in the future.
“We need to get some new blood in the volunteer fire department for our county,” said Bennett. “If they’ve had 20 years of service they are eligible for, from the Fireman’s Relief Association, they are eligible for an annuity that they can apply for. It pays a little stipend during their retirement.”
The County Commission approves the retirements for the volunteer firefighters.
