The Junction City Blue Jays rolled to a 44-6 win over Wichita North on a rainy cold night at Al Simpler Stadium to clinch the district football title. The Blue Jays will now advance to the Class 6A postseason playoffs for a second consecutive year.
Junction City got on the board first with a safety after North quarterback Darius Russell was tackled in the end zone. But the next score didn’t come until the final play of the first quarter when quarterback Ryan Henington and Jovan Baldwin hooked up on a 33-yard touchdown pass play.
The Blue Jays added four touchdowns in the second quarter, including a 96-yard scoring run by Raye Wilson to help secure a 38-0 halftime lead. The only score for the Redskins came with 10:59 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Junction City finished the regular season 3-0 in the district, and 9-0 for the regular season. Wichita North finished their season 1-8 overall, and 1-2 in district play.
