The Oklahoma Sooners ( 5-1, 2-1 Big 12 ) racked up 568 yards total offense, scored seven touchdowns, and kicked two field goals enroute to a 55-0 beat-down of Kansas State on Saturday at Bill Snyder Family stadium.
It was the first shutout loss for Kansas State since a 12-0 loss at Colorado in 1996, and the first in Manhattan since a 10-0 loss to Colorado in 1991.
OU coach Bob Stoops said his team responded after their loss to Texas one week ago. “They came out Monday just really fired up, energetic, and it carried through the week. We executed really well, give them the credit, the players, the execution was maybe as good as we’ve had.” During Stoops’ time as coach, the Sooners have not lost back to back games since consecutive losses to Notre Dame and Texas in his first season at OU in 1999.
K-State coach Bill Snyder commented on the toll two close losses in the last two weeks had on the Wildcats. “It is probably obvious that it has taken its toll. I think all of us are embarrassed. I cannot remember being involved in a game like this since 1989 in the first year that we were here. I do not even know if we had one that bad during that first go around. I am not really smart enough to put my finger on it.” Snyder added, “I feel badly for the guys in the locker room, but we were not as prepared to play. It is more than just the emotional preparation as well.”
Attendance for the contest was 52,867. Many fans left early.
K-State ( 3-3, 0-3 Big 12 ) plays at Texas next Saturday.
