The Junction City girls tennis team competed in the Centennial League tournament on Monday in Topeka.
Coach Matthew Micheel said the Lady Jays were led by the 7th place doubles team of Ally McKenzie and Danielle Shane, who went 4-2 on the day, losing only to top seeded Washburn Rural and in a very close match with Emporia’s top doubles team 8-6. The 7th place finish helped the Lady Jays to a 7th place team finish overall with 36 points.
Washburn Rural won the championship (80 points), followed by Shawnee Heights (75 points), Emporia (70 points) and Seaman (69 points). The Lady Jays other doubles team of Abby Khoury and Jordan Dombrowski finished 16th, while Nea Misa and Abigail Weisler finished 15th and 16th in singles.
The Lady Jays next compete in Regionals this Saturday at the Topeka Kossover Center starting at 10 am.
