As a result of blue green algae samples collected on Aug. 31, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has recommended that Zones A and B at Milford Lake be listed in a “Watch” status and Zone C remain in a “Warning” status.
That means the southern two-thirds of the lake will be upgraded to a watch, and designated beaches operated by the Corps of Engineers and Milford State Park will be re-opened for the Labor Day weekend.
According to R. J. Harms, Operations Project Manager, for the Corps of Engineers, cell counts improved dramatically in Zones A and B last week while sample results from C at Timber Creek and the City of Wakefield remain high with elevated blue green algae cell counts and toxin levels.
