Change for High School Football in Classes 5A and 6A

KSHSAA Board of Directors Meeting

TOPEKA, Kan. – Effective in the 2016-17 scheduling cycle, class 6A and 5A schools will no longer be assigned football districts following an adoption of a proposal to the Board of Directors submitted by kshsaathose schools. During the coming year the Executive Board will determine the 6A and 5A playoff format which will feature 16 schools in a west bracket and 16 schools in an east bracket. Week nine’s game will begin the first round of postseason play in class 6A and 5A.

This will impact the Junction City Blue Jay and Manhattan Indian football programs, among others.

This will go into effect with the 2016 season.

For Junction City this will mean one more season of district play in the 6A football district that includes the Blue Jays, Wichita North, Wichita East, and Wichita Southeast. Then in 2016 the Blue Jays will play an eight game regular season schedule with playoffs beginning on week nine.
