The Geary USD 475 Board of Education has given the green light for the purchase of new field turf for the Al Simpler Stadium at Junction City High School.
JCHS Athletic Director Matt Westerhaus explained over the past four to five years there have been issues with fiber degradation in the current turf. “A big portion of the turf you can kind of rip that fiber off. ”
The school district had one year warranty remaining on the existing turf, which was initially forecast to last for 10 years. Normally the cost of a new field through the company, FieldTurf is approximately $450,000. District officials held dialogues with the company believing they should prorate the cost of a new field based upon the remaining one year of warranty and three years of anticipated playability. The company then qouted the district the lower price of $315,213.
