Junction City led 2-0 at the beginning of the game, but then Derby took over and rolled to a 63-41 victory over the Blue Jays in the first round of the Class 6A Substate tournament.

Friday night at Derby. Washburn Rural advanced to the title game by upsetting the number one seed in the tournament, Manhattan, 59-58.
Derby hit six 3-point shots in the first against Junction City, four different players hitting those treys.
After the game Blue Jay coach Pat Battle said you needed to give the Panthers the most credit for shutting Junction City down on the perimeter. “Dared us to go inside. When we didn’t go inside and we didn’t finish. And we were awful from the free throw line tonight. That’s a bad combination, really.”
James Conley topped all scorers with 19 points, while Raye Wilson led the Blue Jays with 12.
Junction City ends the season with a final record of 6-15.
