The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a winter weather advisory for snow…Which is in effect from 3 a.m. To 9 a.m. Cst Tuesday.

* Timing…Snow will begin near the Nebraska border by 3 a.m. and quickly move southeast…Coming to an end in northern Kansas by 9 am.

* Total snow accumulations… Up to 2 inches of snow is expected with a very tight gradient from a dusting up to the highest amounts across a distance of only 30 miles or less.

* Winds…Wind gusts of 10 to 20 mph are expected during and shortly after the snowfall.

* Impacts…This snow will not last long…But may be heavy at times. The snow will also cause a difficult morning commute with hazardous travel conditions likely in the locations affected by this narrow band of snow.

A small area of moderate to heavy snow will move into northern KS around 3 am…quickly moving south to interstate 70 by sunrise. This system is expected to produce a narrow band of up to 2 inches of snow in only 2 to 3 hours. Snow amounts are expected to vary greatly over only short distances of 30 miles or less. Within the heaviest snow…rates of up to 1 inch per hour are likely for a short period. This snow will impact the morning commute in northern KS, along interstate 70, and as far south as Ottawa and Osage City, and exiting the forecast area by noon. A second area of snow may develop in north central KS and move southeast toward east central KS on Tuesday afternoon and evening. Minor accumulation is expected within this narrow axis of snow as well.
