Twelve cattle producers attended a recent meeting at the Junction City Area Chamber of Commerce with Ivan Garrett, who is considering starting a shareholder owned beef packing plant at a still to be determined location in the Flint Hills.

Economic Development Specialist Susan Jagerson confirmed it would be both a kill and processing center. The plant would be owned by shareholders, and those cattle producers would then take their beef to the facility.

Jagerson noted in addition to Junction City Garrett had looked at Alta Vista, Alma, and Wamego, and planned to talk with officials in Manhattan.
