Ware Elementary Planning for Annual Barn Dance and Kansas Day Activities

Fort Riley, KS, Jan. 23 – The annual barn dance and Kansas Day activities are going to make for exciting times at Ware Elementary.

On Wednesday, January 28, the school will be welcoming the Geary County HistoricalUSD 475 Logo Society and six of their Traveling Trunks for several presentations. During the 30 minute presentations, each grade level will interact with different items from the Geary County Historical Society’s education collection. These items will help paint a picture of what it might have been like growing up in Kansas during a different era. A few trunks the students will get to explore include School Days, Fun before Nintendo, and Children’s Chores.

On Thursday, February 5, Ware Elementary is hosting its annual Barn Dance. This event welcomes Ware’s third, fourth, and fifth graders and gives the opportunity for Ware students to showcase the dances they have been learning in music class. Dances are taught by Ware music teachers Mrs. Susan Gillespie and Mr. Drew Horton. The “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” and the “Cha Cha Slide” are a few dances students can share with their parents.

The Barn Dance begins at 5:30 and goes to 6:45 p.m. To tide folks over until they get home for dinner, Ware Student Council sells pizza and drinks as one of their annual fundraisers. Student Council raises funds so that they can sponsor activities for the school. There will also be multiple rounds of cowboy bingo throughout the evening where students have opportunities to win some amazing prizes. It is a really fun night for students and their parents.
