The 2015 Milford Lake Stakeholder Meeting has been scheduled February 5 at the Milford City Hall
Building. It will begin at 2 p.m.
The Project / Operations Manager for the Corps of Engineers, R.J. Harms said the 2014 recreation season presented challenges with blue green algae impacts. Representatives from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Corps of Engineers will be in attendance and able to discuss the current status of the Hazardous Algal Bloom program for KDHE, and the water quality sampling program currently in used by the Corps of Engineers.
Tom Stiles, Chief, Watershed Planning, Monitoring and Assessment Section, will discuss potential changes in the KDHE HAB policy and explain environmental factors contributing to the recent blue green algae issues experienced at Milford Lake.
Marvin Boyer, Limnologist with the Corps of Engineers, will discuss the water quality sampling program under way in Milford Lake and provide current and historical conditions.
Those who have been invited to provide information related to their business or organization during the meeting range from Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, Milford State Park, and Milford Lake and Thunderbird Marinas to the Milford Lake Outdoors Alliance, Acorns Resort, and Flagstop Campground & Resort. Several other organizations have been invited to send representatives.
