The bitter cold of this week could lead to damage of some of the smaller wheat in Geary County. That’s the view of Extension Agent Chuck Otte.
“We had enough wind. We didn’t have a lot of snow, so there’s some bare areas out there. Especially some of the terrace tops. We’re going to see some dead wheat out there, but I think the majority of the wheat, the wheat that got planted earlier is going to be okay.”
Otte added the temperatures did not drop to the 10-20 degree below range where there could have been problems. He noted livestock have been handling the cold, and are doing okay.
