Down by as many as 11 points in the first half, the Wildcats took the lead at 48-46 with 16:04 left in the game and built as much as an 11-point advantage behind a torrid 68.2 percent (15-of-22) shooting. It marked the second straight game that K-State has shot better than 65 percent from the field in the second half, as the squad is averaging 50.5 points on 67.4 percent shooting after halftime this season. In addition to Gipson’s fifth 20-point outing to go with his team-leading nine rebounds, K-State got double-digit scoring efforts from Marcus Foster (16), Justin Edwards (15) and Nigel Johnson (12) and Jevon Thomas had nine assists.

GAME 3 – QUICK HITTERS

  • K-State begins a nine-day road trip on Friday, as the Wildcats travel to Long Beach, Calif., to face perennial Big West contender Long Beach State (1-2, 0-0 Big West) at the Walter Pyramid at 9:30 p.m. CT. It will be the first of four games in a six-day stretch, which includes the Championship Round of the EA Sports Maui Invitational, Nov. 24-26.
  • K-State is off to a 2-0 start to the season for the 11th time in the last 12 seasons after wins over Southern Utah (98-68) and UMKC (83-73).
  • Head coach Bruce Weber will be going for his 50th win at K-State on Friday at LBSU. A win would match Lon Kruger (1986-90) for the second-fastest mark to 50 wins in school history (71 games). Zora Clevenger won 50 games in just 59 attempts for the fastest mark from 1916-20.
  • The 181 points scored are the seventh-most after two games in school history and the most since posting 184 to start the 2008-09 season. The 98 points vs. Southern Utah were the most in an opener since scoring 103 vs. Texas-San Antonio in 1991 and most in any game since 2010.
  • K-State leads the Big 12 in scoring offense (90.5 ppg.), field goal percentage (58.5), 3-point field goal percentage (58.1) and assists (20.5).
  • Friday’s contest is the first true road non-conference game since a 65-62 win at George Washington on Dec. 8, 2012 and the 13th overall since the 2006-07 season. It will also be the first of two true road contests in non-conference play, along with Tennessee on Saturday, Dec. 6.
  • K-State has had success on the road in non-conference play with wins in seven of their last eight games, including five straight wins. The Wildcats are 8-4 in true road non-conference games since 2006-07 after posting a dismal 2-15 mark in such contests from 1999 to 2005.
  • Overall, K-State is 92-21 (.814) in non-conference play since the 2006-07 season, including double-digit wins in each of the last six seasons. The Wildcats are 23-5 (.821) in non-conference play under Bruce Weber.
  • K-State and Long Beach State will be meeting for the ninth time on the hardwood, including the third time in the last two seasons. Last year, the Wildcats earned a 71-58 win over the 49ers at home on Nov. 17 in the first game of the home-and-home series before posting a 52-38 victory in the consolation bracket of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off on Nov. 24.
  • K-State will be making its third trip to Long Beach State and first since 1998. The Wildcats have split their previous two road match-ups, losing 75-69 on Dec. 23, 1978 and winning 90-77 on Dec. 12, 1998.
