Employee Overtime Expenses a Focus for Geary Community Hospital

Geary Community Hospital spends roughly $671,000 a year on overtime, and previously was unable to track how much of that was incidental overtime, such as an employee checking in 15 minutes early or checking out 15 minutes late.

David Busatti, Chief Financial Officer explained during the Hospital’s Board of gch logoTrustee’s meeting Tuesday that a system is now in place for department heads to be able to manage any incidental overtime.

“We realize there’s going to be overtime, there’s always going to be something,” says Busatti. “We just want to manage that via the employees, via the department heads.”

Busatti went on to explain that by managing the incidental overtime the hospital could save approximately $250,000 a year.

He also added,”it’s not to sacrifice patient care, quality and customer service. If they have to be there for the patient they have to be there, that’s the bottom line.”
