The 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley in conjunction with USD 475 will host the Fort Riley
Middle School ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. Thursday ( Oct. 23 ) at 4020 First Division Road, Fort Riley.
Patrick O’Brien, Department of Defense Office of Economic Adjustment Director, Col. Andrew Cole, garrison commander, Dr. Corbin Witt, USD 475 Superintendent, Kim Milleson, President of the USD 475 Board of Education, and Joe Handlos, Fort Riley Middle School principal will speak during the ceremony.
The new middle school opened for classes in August.
It is a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver certified building, making it the second “green” addition to the district. It houses a high-tech Media Hub / Center that will transform the way students are able to collaborate and learn. In addition, the school is home to a state of the art auditorium and two gymnasiums, with the second gym being a Federal Emergency Management Agency certified structure able to withstand winds of up to 250 mph.
