Geary County will be replacing the Pressee Road bridge using funds received from KDOT through the local bridge improvement program.
It was announced last week that Geary County received $120,000 from the KDOT program. Florence Whitebread, County Commissioner explained that those funds will go toward the Pressee Road bridge replacement.
“It’s a project that will cost approximately $145,000, it’s on Pressee Road, and there will be more information coming out down the road about that, but it’s a project that we will get started on probably as soon as possible,” says Whitebread.
Whitebread also commented on another bridge project that is underway, the replacement of the McNeal Road bridge.
“The bridge is under contract with J&J Construction, and they’ve asked for delay on that for 30 days. They’ve removed the old bridge but that’s about all that’s been done there, and this is the 17th working day.”
Whitebread did explain that J&J Construction asked for the delay because they currently have two other projects underway which were delayed due to weather, and crews have been focusing on those projects.
The commission did not approve the delay because the project was placed out to bid and they felt it would be unfair to the other companies that bid on the project.
