The Jim and Sara Schmidt family have been named the 4-H Family of the Year in Geary County.

They were honored at the 4-H Appreciation Celebration Sunday night at the 4-H Center.
Sara Schmidt was surprised when their name was called. “Little surprised. Was not expecting that at all. It was a nice surprise. There are other families just as deserving.”
Jim Schmidt said the recognition is real special. “We’re real proud of our kids. There’s a lot of deserving folks out there that put a lot of time in with the Geary County 4-H. We’re real fortunate in this area to have such a strong 4-H program for our youth.”
They Schmidt’s have four children, Riley, 12, Elijah 10, and Elaina, 8, are currently in 4-H, and there are future plans for 3-year old Ava to participate as well.
