The Sears store in the Manhattan Town Center is scheduled to close in December.
Jocelyn Guilfoyle, Marketing Manager for the Town Center, confirmed Sears is closing. “As of right now the first part of December, they will be closed around Dec. 7. So they’ll make it through Black Friday. They will be here to make it through part of the holiday season.”
Guilfoyle noted the decision to close the store was made at the national level by the company. “It was a national decision. They’re actually closing several different Sears locations throughout the country. ” Guilfoyle added Sears had had some financial troubles over the past several years. “And our store just happened to be selected.”
Guilfoyle said their corporate office, Urban Retail Properties, corporate leasing team is working to fill the space currently occuppied by Sears. “With lease negoations it’s just a process that takes a little bit of time. But they are in the works of finding a new and exciting tenant for that space.”
Sears opened in the Manhattan Town Center in 1990. The store has served as one of the anchor tenants in the mall.
