Kansas State has faced two teams in a row that run the ball for over 300 yards a game, this week they will see the opposite end of the spectrum as Texas Tech comes to Manhattan averaging over 300 yards passing per game.
The Red Raiders are averaging 344 yards passing per game, compared to
just 157 yards rushing per game, and have been led by sophomore quarterback Davis Webb, who may not play Saturday.
Webb suffered an injury to his non-passing shoulder in last weeks 45-35 loss to Oklahoma State and head coach Cliff Kingsbury said whether he plays or not will be a game day decision. If Webb can’t go Texas Tech would likely go with true freshman Patrick Mahomes.
Kansas State’s Jonathan Truman explained that from what he has seen so far in watching film there isn’t any major differences between the two quarterbacks.
“Both of the guys have great capabilities, and they are very skilled at what they do,” says Truman. “They manage the game very well, they play their offense very well. We just have to be prepared like we do every week, be prepared for anything they throw at us, and whether he plays or not, we are going to be prepared for it.”
Kansas State Coach Bill Snyder explained that there shouldn’t be much change to how K-State’s defensive backs adjust to a passing offense opposed to a run dominant offense.
“You know if you do it the right way, it isn’t that. Your eyes are supposed to tell them if it’s either run or pass. It’s a matter of discipline, staying focused, putting your eyes in the right place, and responding rapidly to what you see,” says Snyder.
Kansas State and Texas Tech will face off in a 6 p.m. match up Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
