LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) – Texas Tech could again have a freshman starting at quarterback when the
Red Raiders play No. 23 Kansas State this week.
Patrick Mahomes could start in place of sophomore Davis Webb after a shoulder injury to his non-throwing arm in the fourth quarter of Texas Tech’s 45-35 loss at Oklahoma State last week.
Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury said Webb starting will be a game-day decision and he’d need to be able to protect himself. Webb threw for 374 yards, four touchdowns and had two interceptions before getting injured.
After that, Mahomes threw for one TD and had an interception.
