Milford Lake continues to struggle with blue green algae impacts this season.
R. J. Harms, Operations Project Manager for the Corps of Engineers at Milford Lake said Thursday that the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has placed a lake-wide “Warning” status in place again for the upcoming week.
Samples collected last Monday showed significant increases in cell counts at all five sample locations with levels extremely high at the north end of Milford Lake near the Timber Creek area and Wakefield boat ramp. Microcystin toxin levels are elevated as well compared to samples collected throughout this season.
With waterfowl and other hunting seasons open, visitors are being reminded to be cautious when hunting in and around lake access areas that may not have blue green algae signage readily available.
Samples will be collected again next Monday by KDHE to continue monitoring conditions.
