Chase on I-70

A chase on I-70 near Grandview Plaza Sunday evening led to a combined total of four flat tires on a Geary County Sheriff’s Department patrol car and two of Screen Shot 2014-09-22 at 7.29.04 AMthe Department’s pickup trucks.

Sheriff Tony Wolf provided the preliminary details on the case, saying it began when a deputy stopped near mile marker 307, about nine miles east of Junction City on the Interstate to assist what appeared to be a disabled motorist, and then became a medical issue when the woman involved began showing signs of  what appeared to be an  asthma attack. An ambulance was called to the scene.  The woman who claimed she had a medical problem,   was placed in a patrol car, but then she drove off in it and a pursuit followed.

Eventually with the use of stop sticks,  the vehicle was stopped near the 298 exit off I-70 near Grandview Plaza.  The woman, who has been identified by the sheriff as Lacreisha Hoyle of Lawrence,  was arrested. No one was injured.

The Sheriff’s Department vehicles with flat tires had to be towed into Junction City, or hauled on the back of a flatbed truck in one case.

The patrol car driven by the suspect had one of the flat tires. The sheriff confirmed the others occurred when two of the  Department’s vehicles struck stop sticks that had been inadvertently left on the Interstate by a Grandview Plaza police officer.
