Jolana Montgomery-Matney hoped to raise $30,000 through the Fall Classic Golf Tournament coordinated by the Geary Community Healthcare Foundation. The event was intended to raise money to establish a Sexual Assault Response Team and place two or three sexual assault nurse examiners at Geary Community Hospital.

But the final outcome went far above that. The total raised was $53, 296.

During the dinner for the golfers a surprise $24,000 donation was presented from the Junction City Police, Geary County Sheriff’s Office, and Geary County Attorney’s Office.

Healthcare Foundation Director Jolana Montgomery-Matney said Police Chief Tim Brown and Sheriff Tony Wolf made the announcement that they were pledging $24,000 needed to purchase a camera for the program.  Montgomery-Matney said it’s a specialty camera. “It takes pictures that are held securely and transmitted securely to the court. This is the camera that prosecutors use to bring evidence into a case in a courtroom. It’s very specific in what it does, but it also secures all the photos, all of the stuff that it takes.”

The money for the camera comes from drug forfeiture funds.
