The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has placed Milford Lake under a combined status for blue green algae, with those areas north of Farnum Creek listed at the warning level, and all areas south of Farnum Creek listed in the advisory level status.

That information has been released by the Corps of Engineers.

According to the Operations Project Manager for the Corps of Engineers at Milford Lake all sites monitored have elevated cell counts with three of five areas being in the warning level, and two areas returning advisory level cell counts.

In a warning area officials prohibit direct contact with the water such as swimming. But in advisory area they only discourage it.  All boating and fishing is allowed.

The latest status is an update from last week when the entire lake was put under a warning level.
