The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has once again recommended that
Milford Lake be placed under a lake-wide warning status for blue green algae.
The Corps of Engineers made the announcement, with Operations Project Manager R. J . Harms noting the warning status is based on sample results collected on Monday, Aug. 18.
“KDHE has come out with a recommendation that we’ll go back under a lake-wide warning. Test results from three of the five locations that they test out here came back with fairly high cell counts up well into the warning level. And they included the City of Wakefield at the north end of the lake, and the East Rolling Hills boat ramp area. When we have those high cell counts in the northern areas and the southern areas of the lake they place the entire lake under a lake-wide warning level status this week.”
Under a warning boating and fishing are still permitted at Milford Reservoir, but other direct contact with the water such as swimming, jet skiing, or tubing is prohibited.
