The Fall semester at the Geary County Campus of Cloud County Community College will kick off on Wednesday and enrollment is tracking the same as last year.

Currently 403 students have enrolled in the fall semester, but enrollment is still underway. Brenda Edleston, Dean of the Geary County Campus explained that they will continue to enroll students up until August 19th.

“People can still come in and start taking classes or add to the classes that they are already enrolled in,” Edleston said.

Of the current 403 students enrolled they have signed up for 4,184 credit hours for the fall semester.

The campus does draw a lot of students in for the various science programs such as Agri-Biotechnology, and nursing. Edleston said that they also attract students who are preparing for to move up to the University level.

“There starting with a smaller campus, smaller class sizes. They get their English, math, psychology, and science taken care of, and then they graduate with their associate of arts or associates of science degree. Then they are ready to go on to the Universities to major in whatever their career field is going to be.”

The college has also teamed up with Junction City High School this year and has paired up courses in the courses of wind energy, criminal justice, early childhood education, agriculture and allied health. They are different from the concurrent classes that high school students can currently take at the high school.

“In these courses they actually leave the high school, come over to the Geary County Campus and they’re in classes with other college students of different ages and different walks of life.”

The classes help introduce high school students to different classes that will prepare them for different career fields, as well as, give them a chance to get a glimpse of college life.
