K-State Football – Off the Field Impact

K-state football has an economic impact on the Manhattan area.ksu - baylor Thousands attend Wildcat football games.

During Media Day KSU coach Bill Snyder addressed the subject.  ” And I think that will continue. You’ve all seen a great growth here, not just economically but just in numbers…population wise, just continually grows and grows and grows. So, yes it has a great meaning. In that respect it brings an awful lot of dollars here, and like I say it’s not just one game. It’s every game.”

Snyder made his comment after being asked about the marquee nonconference matchup with Auburn on September 18 in Manhattan.

On playing Auburn, “It’s an excellent program and it’ll be a marquee game. If we don’t think Stephen F. Austin is a marquee game then we’re going to have some trouble. And that’s the last thing I want, and that’s the last thing the fans want.”

Kansas State opens the season by hosting Stephen F. Austin on August 30.

Hotels, restaurants, shopping outlets, bars, and gasoline sales are among the areas impacted economically on home game weekends. The impact is felt in Manhattan, but also in the region including Junction City where hotels, restaurants, and convenience stories see substantial business on those weekends.

The Wildcats play seven home games this season…..Stephen F. Austin, Auburn, UTEP, Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma State, and Kansas.
