Temperatures exceeded 100 degrees with a heat index between 105 degrees and 108 degrees both Tuesday and Friday in Junction City

Pat Hunter, Director of the Geary County Health Department, explained that both children and the elderly should remain inside during days with temperatures that high.

“They should not be out in these kind of high weather related situations if they don’t have to, of course we have to go out and purchase things and so forth,” Hunter said.

Hunter further explained that if you do not have access to air conditioning there are locations throughout Junction City that you can go, including the Health Department and the Dorothy Bramlage Public Library.

Staying hydrated is also important Hunter explained.

“Drink water first. Decrease caffeine, so if someone is a soda drinker, maybe decrease that but certainly make sure there is enough water on board to remain hydrated.”

Temperatures are expected stay around the century mark throughout the weekend before dropping back down to around the mid 80’s through next week.
