The Junction City Brigade lost their opening game in the 2014 Summer Classic to determine the

Mid Plains League champion, but then rallied to win six straight games and the tournament title at Rathert Field.
On Sunday Junction City needed to win three games to clinch the first ever conference crown. They did just by defeating the Topeka Senators 4-2, the Topeka Golden Giants 4-3 in extra ( 8 ) innings, and then the Giants again by a score of 13-9 to clinch the title on a hot, windy Sunday.
The team was presented with the Cowdin Cup trophy after the final victory.
In addition two members of the Brigade received special recognition. First baseman / designated hitter Brett Nickle was named the Player of the Year in the Mid Plains League, while pitcher Dalton Schalberg was named the Pitcher of the Year in the conference.
