Junction City is being awarded $950,000 from the Kansas Department of Transportation for a shared use path along K-18 Highway.

Greg McCaffery, City Municipal Services Director, explained it will extend 1.1 miles.

“What we received was part B of the project, which is the eastern most portion of the project, which involves a ten foot wide safety path basically from Rucker Road going west toward the Highway 77 bridge or interchange portion. The path way would be built along the north side of K-18,” McCaffery said.

The City’s local match share will total $365,000.

Phase A of the project will include a small piece near Spring Valley Road and K-18, with the city contributing $15,000 toward the building of the sidewalk. Phase C of the project will be completely funded by the state, and will include a new motorists bridge with an attached pedestrian bridge on K-18 over US 77.

Phase A will be done in 2015, and Phases B and C in 2016.
