Fixed Public Bus Routes Would be Focus of Study

ATA Bus will look at having a study done through the University of Kansas on fixed bus routes ATAfor Junction City.

The public bus service already serves both Manhattan and Junction City.

Geary County Commissioner Florence Whitebread said the study will begin when school begins in September with a group from KU that studies bus services. “And they will be studying our fixed routes, possibility of three routes, and including Grandview Plaza if studies all go and we have the money to start in October of 2015.”

Between now and October of 2015 the County would have to ensure there is enough funding to implement the routes. “ATA Bus Service has to be able to purchase the extra busses.”

Whitebread updated Junction City and Geary County Commissioners on the subject during a joint intergovernmental meeting Monday at the C. L. Hoover Opera House.
